Job Summary

This position is scheduled to begin August 2023. Instructs students from diverse backgrounds and/or cultures in a full range of emergency medical education classes with a primary focus on mobile integrated health courses in accordance with the college's learning-centered philosophy; uses multiple methods of instruction, assessment results, and appropriate instructional technologies to engage students in learning, enhance teaching, and promote student success. The instructor may teach in traditional and accelerated programs as well as hybrid and/or online courses. Collaborates in the development and leadership of programs for students within the college and/or outside with business, industry, community, EMS agencies, and fire service agencies; collaborates in integrated public healthcare programs and activities, builds relationships with high school and university institutions in support of career/transfer pathways; facilitates activities outside the classroom for students (eg. Undergraduate research, clubs, STEAM activities and programs, experiences for students in business/industry/community partners, etc.). Demonstrates a commitment to service excellence, innovation, student success, integrity, and diversity in the performance of job duties.

Essential Functions

Instructs a diverse population of students, including students in high school bridge programs in a classroom, lab, clinical, and field internship setting, online, hybrid, accelerated, and other alternative schedules and formats; uses learning centered strategies to engage students and promote student success; demonstrates innovation in teaching and learning and the scholarship of learning by focusing on student learning, retention, and achievement; incorporates instructional technology and alternative delivery or scheduling techniques, etc.

Develops instructional materials and curricula; develops written syllabi/course outlines and course materials; assesses and evaluates knowledge of subject matter taught and monitors students' scholastic records; prepares and grades examinations and other learning activities; may hire and evaluate adjunct faculty; may coordinate program activities; participates in division and college assessment and program review processes; uses assessment and evaluation results to improve instruction and student learning, etc.

Maintains academic support hours to assist, tutor, and advise students to promote learning, citizenship and personal development; works with students outside of the classroom on instructional activities and projects such as clubs, undergraduate student research, STEAM activities and programs; participates in integrated public healthcare programs and activities; participates in interdisciplinary activities with MCCCD allied healthcare programs; participates in internships with business/industry/community partners; develops and cultivates relationships with high school and university institutions to develop and promote transfer pathways for students; facilitates interprofessional relationships, etc.

Remains current with new trends and developments in the field through attendance at conferences, courses, seminars, workshops and enhances knowledge of pedagogy related to the emergency medical services and mobile integrated health disciplines as well as pedagogy of adult learners and underprepared students; participates in college and district activities including department/division meetings, committees, workshops and projects; contributes to the academic life and mission of the college; demonstrates intercultural competence in interactions with students, staff, and the community; maintains a team approach in collaborating with faculty, staff, and students, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

Update 12/8/22. For occupational disciplines, a combination of education and/or experience is required to qualify. A faculty may qualify with any of the following:
  • Five years of occupational experience in the field to be taught OR
  • Three years of occupational experience in the field to be taught and a Bachelor's degree OR
  • A Master's degree in the teaching field OR
  • A Master's degree in any field with 18 graduate credits in the teaching field OR
  • A Master's degree in any field with a combination of 24 upper division and/or graduate credits in the teaching field
    • Upper division courses are Junior and Senior level courses in obtaining a Bachelors' degree. OR
  • A Journeyman certification in the field to be taught.
  • EDU 250 - Teaching and Learning in the Community College or equivalent must be completed within two years of the date of hire


Desired Qualifications

A. Three (3) or more years experience teaching emergency medical technology courses

B. Experience serving as Program Director in EMT/EMS education

C. Experience serving as a National Registry of EMT's Psychomotor Site Coordinator

D. Experience serving as an EMS Coordinator within an EMS organization

E. Experience implementing and monitoring measures to maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation policies and requirements of federal, state, and local agencies, including AZBTEMS, CoAEMSP or CAAHEP

F. Recent work experience as an EMT, Paramedic and/or Registered Nurse in the clinical and/or pre-hospital care settings

May travel or be assigned to any MCCCD location

May teach at MCC Red Mountain and Dobson & Southern campuses

Local travel required

May teach weekend and evening as well as day courses

May be required to teach evening, weekend, and/or on-line classes on needs of the department

May require prolonged periods of time; viewing a computer monitor

May be required to lift or carry up to 50lbs.

Additional Requirements

Currently hold in good standing, a National Registry of EMT's certification, or Arizona State certification/license as an EMCT, Paramedic, Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant or Medical Doctor/DO

Must meet Maricopa Community Colleges Allied Health Policies, immunization, drug screen, and other related requirements to precept students in the clinical and field internship settings.

Required to have possession of a valid Level I DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card and pass a MCCCD comprehensive background screening check

Must have current, good standing American Heart Association (AHA) BLS, ACLS, PALS instructor credentials

Additional credentials as an National Association of EMT's (NAEMT) Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS) and PreHospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) Instructor is preferred
