Public Works Crewperson 

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Village of McFarland has an immediate opening for a full-time Public Works Crewperson in the Public Works department. The Public Works Crewperson will be responsible for performing a wide variety of unskilled and semi-skilled work associated with the operation and maintenance of streets, storm sewers, and water and sewer utility systems and of Village owned facilities and parks.  The work includes construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement activities and involves the operation of a variety of different vehicles, machinery, and equipment.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency;
  • 3 years of related experience in the construction and maintenance of public works or utilities infrastructure and the operation of vehicles and equipment commonly used in this type of work; or,
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. 

Candidate must possess or be able to obtain:

  • Valid Wisconsin drivers’ license with applicable Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) endorsements; and,
  • Wisconsin DNR Water Certification – Distribution and Ground Water.

Wage: 

$24.99 to $31.67 per hour depending on qualifications.

Hours:

a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday with rotating on-call duties.

Candidate must be available for overtime work when required, including periodic night and weekend work, and must be able to respond to emergency call outs within 30 minutes in all weather conditions.  This position is subject to 24-hour emergency call-in and may be required to work extended periods at a time.
