Managing Director, Head of Alternative Assets - Hybrid

Symetra
life insurance, 401(k)
United States, Connecticut, Farmington
July 23, 2023

Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Head of Alternative Assets!

About the role

The Managing Director, Head of Alternative Assets will lead the management of alternative asset portfolios on behalf of SIM's clients, and in particular, its affiliated life insurance clients. The successful candidate will source alternative asset investment opportunities with a particular emphasis on the unique needs and/or constraints of each corresponding client portfolio, and in a way that balances sometimes competing objectives such as risk, long-term return, capital and/or tax efficiency, and other factors. The investable universe is expected to include directly managed strategies (e.g. passive ETFs) as well as externally managed positions, such as private equity, private credit, hedge funds, affordable housing tax credit funds, green energy funds, CLO equity, co-investments, separate accounts, and other potential areas as identified by the incumbent and approved internally. The alternatives team will coordinate due diligence with the internal investment committee and other members of the SIM front office with expertise in relevant areas, as applicable.

This is a management role that will initially have at least one direct report. Close collaboration with key stakeholders at SIM and Symetra Life will also be critical to ensure the timely delivery of investment portfolio positioning, results, and benchmarking that meet portfolio manager and client requirements, the appropriate reflection of such assets in SIM's analytic systems, and the successful and timely handling of portfolio inquiries.
