Weekend Meteorologist

Do you like severe weather -- tornadoes, giant hail, flooding, windstorms, blizzards, and wildfires? Then this is the job for you!

ABC 7 Amarillo is looking for a Weekend Meteorologist (No typical MMJ/Reporting duties)

We understand while all meteorologists love weather, not all meteorologists love covering news. Unlike most other TV stations, our weekend meteorologist does not have to deal with the pressures of turning a news story under deadline three days a week.

The primary focus of this position is producing/anchoring forecasts for weekend newscasts and filling-in for our morning and chief meteorologists.

When not doing weather, this person will:

• Produce targeted weather/environmental content for TV/digital
• Shoot occasional vo/sots, live shots for news
• Train to produce for TV and digital

Other Duties:

• Forecasting, producing and presenting clear and concise weather casts, which tell a story and connect with viewers
• Issue warnings and alerts, produce graphics and maps, and report live during weather events
• Utilize social media during severe weather, as well as write weather stories
• Make public appearances on behalf of the station
• Work with producers to determine relevant weather content in breaking and everyday situations

What skills do you need to be successful in our role?

• In depth knowledge of forecasting
• Ability to multitask while meeting deadlines and prioritizing tasks
• Bachelor's degree in Meteorology, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
• 1 year experience in weather presentation preferred (college newscasts and internships accepted)
