Position Summary Information
General Information |
The Department of Kinesiology in the College of Health and Behavioral Studies at James Madison University seeks a part-time Director of Inclusive Wellness for Empowerment3, the Center for Physical Activity and Wellness for the Underserved.
The Director of Inclusive Wellness will lead our
THRIVE Cerebral Palsy Project, supporting inclusive wellness for children and adults with disabilities across the U.S. (funded by United Cerebral Palsy). The director will support the Ability First project (funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Virginia Board for Persons with Disabilities) as we seek to transform homes, schools, and communities across rural parts of Virginia. Finally, the director will co-lead the Shenandoah Valley Inclusive Wellness Coalition (
SVIWC) and be actively engaged in the capacity-building efforts of community-based organizations. |
Duties and Responsibilities |
- Serve as the Project Lead for THRIVE Cerebral Palsy to improve the physical and emotional health of children and adults with cerebral palsy.
- Serve as our inclusive wellness team lead for Ability First, supporting community wellness across rural counties of the Shenandoah Valley.
- Lead the implementation of app-based and virtual interventions.
- Supervising Weekly Empowerment3 Programming
- Co-Direct the Shenandoah Valley Inclusive Wellness Coalition (SVIWC) as the technical assistance lead
- Support the Department's commitment to diversity
- Collaborate across the university, K-12 schools, community, and profession
- Recruit students with diverse talents and experiences into E3
- Complete all relevant job training
- Advancing innovative and interprofessional education practices

Qualifications |
Required:
- Excellent project management skills
- Experience implementing individualized or inclusive physical activity instruction
- Evidence of commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Ability to work in a team and independently
Preferred:
- Earned bachelor's degree in kinesiology, health science, or a related field from an accredited college/university
- Experience with underserved populations, including individuals with intellectual/developmental and physical disabilities
- Holds Certified Inclusive Fitness Trainer, Community Health Worker, or related certification
- Excellent communication, public speaking, or training skills
- Demonstrated experience in the development of and working with interprofessional teams
- Professional engagement at the local, regional, national, or international level

This is a part-time, wage position working an average of 20 hours per week.

The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as: crime prevention, the university police law enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, disciplinary procedures, protocols for the immediate notification of students and staff upon confirmation of a significant emergency on campus and other matters of importance related to security and safety. The report includes statistics for the most recent three-year period of reported crimes that have occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by
JMU or its affiliates; and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.
The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes campus housing fire statistics for the most recent three-year period, a description of each on-campus student housing facility fire safety system, the number of fire drills held during the previous calendar year, policies or rules on portable electrical appliances, smoking, and open flames in student housing; and procedures for student housing evacuation in the event of fire along with other fire safety information.
