Position Summary

Supporting the vision of MaineHealth of "Working together, so our communities are the healthiest in America," the MaineHealth Accountable Care Organization (ACO) teams work together to succeed in value-based contracts that are designed to control the cost and improve the quality of care delivered to our patients.

The manager of the MaineHealth ACO Data Operations and Analysis team will directly supervise the people and processes that provide analytic insights to the ACO team and its stakeholders. This role oversees a unique data asset which includes both claims and clinical data for all value based contracts for the MaineHealth system. The MaineHealth ACO analytics team focuses on analyses regarding cost, utilization, quality, risk, health care trends, and other factors driving cost and quality of care and performance in value-based contracts.

We seek an analytics manager to bring both leadership skill and technical expertise. The role will report to the Senior Director of Data & Analytics at MHACO, which is part of the larger MaineHealth IT service line. Responsibilities include leading people and managing accurate data source identification, data wrangling, processing, modeling, analysis and content delivery.

The ideal candidate has a knack for seeing solutions in sprawling data sets, has experience with value based care and shared savings contracts and is skilled at coaching team members toward a shared goal.

The Analytics Manager will ensure data accuracy and consistent reporting by designing and creating optimal processes and procedures for analytics team members to follow. The right person for the job will apply their exhaustive knowledge of data analysis to solving real-world problems faced by the MaineHealth ACO and finding opportunities for improvement in our performance in value-based contracts.

Responsibilities:



  • Lead cross-functional projects using advanced analysis techniques to discover insights that will guide strategic decisions and uncover payer contract performance opportunities.
  • Oversees the analysis of quality, utilization and aCDI performance by provider, practice, region, payer and in the aggregate in order to inform contract performance and negotiation, and to identify whether improvement efforts have impacted performance.
  • Oversees the building, development and maintenance of data models, reporting systems, data automation, dashboards and performance metrics that support payer contract performance opportunities.
  • Design and oversee the build of technical and analytic processes.
  • Oversee the design and delivery of reports and insights that analyze business functions and key operations and performance metrics.
  • Recruit, train, develop and supervise analyst-level team members.
  • Ensure accuracy of data and deliverables of reporting employees with comprehensive standards and processes.
  • Manage and optimize processes for data intake, validation, mining and engineering as well as modeling, visualization and communication deliverables
  • Examine, interpret and report results of analytical initiatives to stakeholders in leadership, technology, sales, marketing and product teams
  • Oversee the data/report requests process: tracking requests submitted, prioritization with the MaineHealth ACO leadership, sequencing work and managing the analytic lifecycle through delivery to stakeholders
  • Develop and implement quality controls and departmental standards to ensure quality standards, organizational expectations, and regulatory requirements
  • Anticipate future demands of initiatives related to people, technology, and budget
  • Organize and drive successful completion of data insight initiatives through effective management of analyst and data employees and effective collaboration with stakeholders
  • Mentor and guide their team on:

    • Data mining principles of collecting data from multiple data systems
    • How to work with databases and create dashboards
    • Navigating and analyzing public healthcare claims data sets and prepared reports
    • Provider reimbursement and fundamental healthcare billing and coding concepts
    • Hospital charge masters and health system revenue management cycle strategies
    • Best practices in MS SQL development and coding practices
    • Best practices in data visualization using a data visualization platform (e.g. Power BI, Tableau, QlikSense/View)





Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)



  • Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • License/Certifications: N/A
  • Experience: 4-5 years of proven management experience in a highly collaborative management role. 5+ years' experience working in a progressive technical environment involving the installation, configuration, and support services for computer systems and peripherals. Strong project management experience. Demonstrated experience with process/workflow analysis, design and implementation.
  • Strong facilitation and collaboration skills
  • Strong business knowledge / acumen
  • Outstanding organizational skills including knowledge of quality and project management tools and techniques.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate at all levels with clinical, technical and administrative staff, vendors, and engineers.
  • Demonstrated change management skills
