About the Position

Career Opportunity:
The City of Las Vegas is currently accepting applications for the position of Theatrical Production Assistant. The successful applicant/s will be involved in aspects of light hanging and focus, sound and light board operation, scenic and prop development and will help increase operational efficiency in the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs. This position will also provide customer service and facility support for the department. This position is a grade HY.7.

This is an hourly-level part-time position in the Instructor 3 series. This position is distinguished from other Instructor 3 positions by the assigned duties. Scheduled hours for this position are limited to 19 hours or fewer per week (Shift will vary based on the needs of the programs and facility). Hourly employees are also limited to 1,560 hours of work in any 18 month period.

Work Schedule: This position will primarily work Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and occasionally Sundays. Additionally, may start start as early as 7 a.m. and finish as late as midnight.

Salary: $15 - $20 per hour (to be determined by experience and qualifications)

The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list for current/future openings.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

This position performs routine, entry-level administrative and facility support work under close supervision.

Essential Functions

  • Assist the staff, & Lighting and Sound Artist(s) in day-to-day operations.
  • As directed, maintain equipment, organize, and maintain the shop space(s).
  • Assist Theater Program Specialist in day-to-day operations of the theater.
  • Assist with transport, hang, focus, and other set up and strike operations as needed.
  • Under supervision, work with power woodworking and metalworking tools.
  • As instructed, organize and maintain shop space(s).
  • Assist the staff in locating, organizing, construction and delivery of equipment for performances and rehearsals.
  • As instructed, maintain and organize storage.
  • Follow all instructions to ensure a safe working environment at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • At least 18 years of age on the date of application.
Experience:
  • Education and/or training which ensures the ability to perform the job duties.
  • 2 years' experience in a similar role in an active theater environment.


Training:
  • Within 30 days of hire: obtain OSHA 10hr Occupational Health and Safety certification.
