Job Description


Independently perform simple to moderately difficult GTAW welds on standard high alloys (300 series stainless steels) and certain high-performance alloys.

Performing the following machine welds on 300 series stainless steels and certain high-performance alloys (Alloy 20, etc.):

  • Solid sheet to solid sheet (with or without perforations). Examples: wrapper seam, end ring seam
  • Solid sheet to sintered laminate. Example: safe edge
  • Sintered laminate to sintered laminate. Examples: Poroplate tube seam, Poroplate welded panel

Performing the following hand welds on 300 series stainless steels and certain high-performance alloys:

  • Tack welds
  • Weld repairs (HAZ and media repairs)
  • Circumferential assembly welds. Examples: Poroplate tube assembly joints, fusion welded end treatments
  • Backwashes

Performing shearing and forming processes associated with the preparation of materials for welding. Performing post-welding activities such as forming, swaging, grinding, drifting and inspection.

Ensure the following:

Inform supervisor or group leader of any problems with manufacturing instructions, drawings, processes or product.

Work environment is safe, cleaned daily and organized.

Adhere to all safety and attendance policies, procedures and work rules.

Clock properly and on the applicable job/operation per procedure.

Able to read applicable design drawings and follow manufacturing instructions.

Complete the Inspection Instruction/Record and properly tag material with an In-Process tag per FPS-QI-00005.

Able to utilize measurement instruments (tape measure, dial caliper, pin mic, go-nogo gage, pi tape, etc.) as required.

Trained and certified in the applicable paragraphs of FPS-QC-00060 & FPS-QC-00060-06

Certified to perform specified welding tasks as applicable. Recertification required on an annual basis.

Adhere to manufacturing orders per FPS-PC-00007 paragraph 9.4.

Education /Experience

High School Diploma or Equivalent.

2 or more years of general gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) experience. Some welding-related technical school training desired, certificate or diploma in welding technology preferred.
