Join the Home & Platforms Design team responsible for Yahoo News, Entertainment and Search products. We aim to make content discovery delightful, simple, and more productive by building the best consumer-focused experiences-one meant for running the "business" of life - like staying on top of everything that is happening around us.

You will be joining a team that excels in building prototypes to learn and influence decision making. A strong partnership with the UX Research team has given us a deep understanding of our customers. And we get to learn from experts in a number of design disciplines, as we collaborate across the company on our shared design language.

Responsibilities

As the "architect" of our product experience, you will partner with executives to drive a vision for product strategy, through research and design. In this role you will:

  • Shape the end-to-end consumer experience, across different communication inputs and outputs.

  • Use design methods to identify new problems and opportunities, as well as propose solutions that drive business objectives.

  • Make the team stronger, both through direct mentorship and leading by example, especially regarding visual design quality and attention to detail

  • Lead special projects and innovation tracks.

  • Develop cross-functional relationships and bring people together.

  • Have responsibility for business-level product design decisions.

About you

  • Ownership mindset and accountability with experience leading complex projects and driving innovation efforts that uncovered new value with new kinds of user experiences.

  • Excels in all forms of communication, including using storytelling and narrative to influence and persuade stakeholders. Presents designs clearly to facilitate useful feedback while shifting approach based on the audience and desired outcome.

  • Attention to visual detail, high sense of craft/quality, delivering consistent, polished, and balanced layouts through typography, color, and visual hierarchy.

  • Can operate almost entirely autonomously, but understands when to bring others into conversations for input and decision making.

  • Experienced leading groups and mentoring other designers.

  • Seasoned in all facets of information architecture, interaction design, and UI design.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in design or human-computer interaction; or equivalent work experience

  • Portfolio that demonstrates expertise in visual design, interaction design, prototyping and product thinking.

  • Experience leading a user-centered design process from end-to-end.

  • Proficiency in software to create design concepts, prototypes, assets and specifications.

  • Skills such as illustration, photography, animation, data visualization, conducting user interviews, front-end programming or data science are a plus!

The compensation for this position ranges from $143,625.00 - $299,375.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions, in addition to equity incentives.
