Position Summary:

Provides occupational safety, health and industrial hygiene expertise to provide for the safety and well-being of all customer personnel. Ensures compliance with all federal, state and local safety regulations and adherence to all Vallen and applicable customers safety policies

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Initiates and justify new Safety and Industrial Hygiene projects, additional monitoring and other improvements to the refinery.
  • Regarded by the corporation as an expert on all Safety and Industrial Hygiene regulations impacting the refinery.
  • Develops programs to meet all new OSHA and NIOSH rules for regulations impacting refinery operations.
  • Provides expert comments to trade organizations and the corporation regarding new OSHA and Industrial Hygiene regulations impacting our business.
  • Writes and revises all Safety and Industrial Hygiene and policies affecting refinery operations and provide input to the corporation on new corporate policies and procedures.
  • Makes decisions independently on Safety and Industrial Hygiene programs.
  • Provides Safety and Industrial Hygiene input to major projects, MOCs and PHA's
  • Sets the direction of the refinery Safety and Industrial Hygiene programs.
  • Provides guidance and serve as a technical resource for entry level Safety and Industrial Hygiene Specialists.
  • Provides resource assistance to the Emergency Response Team.
  • Provides leadership to turnaround safety activities.
  • Initiates and justifies new Industrial Hygiene improvement projects.
  • Must be able to work in a collaborative, on-site work environment, which will include participation in unscheduled discussions and troubleshooting on an as needed basis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

High School diploma or GED required.

Bachelor's degree in Safety or Industrial Hygiene or related field preferred.

ASP, CSP, or CIH certification preferred

5+ years of experience providing Safety/Industrial Hygiene expertise within the Industrial Market.

  • Ability to read and interpret company policies, regulatory guidelines, and other work-related documentation.
  • Ability to abide by confidentiality requirements when working with sensitive information, results, and communications.
  • Skill in providing thorough, efficient, and effective customer service to individuals at all levels within the organization.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal methods.
  • Ability to accomplish work within required timelines, including short, long, and emergency timeframes

Job Qualifications Continued:

  • Ability to cross-train in other department duties to ensure efficient coverage department responsibilities.
  • Ability to work with others to accomplish challenging assignments.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple assignments to ensure completion of tasks within stated time requirements.
  • Basic skill using Microsoft Office programs (i.e., Word and Excel).
