Telecommunications Manager

Primary Purpose

Responsible for the direct management of global telecommunications team and daily operations, including local and long distance service, broadband, wireless, conferencing services, call centers and equipment. Act as the liaison with the European IT Team, Supply Management, Business Operations, and Facilities/Design departments to ensure appropriate consideration for telecommunications systems at all centers and offices, globally. Responsible for the research and implementation of all new telecommunications technology, including but not limited to Voice Over IP and Call Center technologies. Negotiate all telecommunications contracts for service and equipment. Supervise billing, auditing and P&L process. Oversee and mentor the IT personnel based in Colorado, by providing them support and guidance.

Major Functions/Responsibilities
  • Interface and maintain relationships with all telecommunications vendors. Oversee the ordering of services and coordination of installation and programs with local vendors and appropriate Bright Horizons personnel. Manage installation of telecommunications services for all locations.

  • Participate in the RFP life cycle as it relates to telecommunications initiatives. This includes sourcing, contracting, conducting quarterly meetings, and leading escalations.

  • In partnership with Supply Management and Legal, participate in contract negotiations for landlines, both local and long distance, conference contracts, broadband, cellular and phone equipment. Keep up-to-date on industry pricing trends and maintain negotiated pricing structures, upgrading technology as it becomes cost effective.

  • Oversee support for all disruptions in telecommunication services company wide. Manage telecommunications team and other Service Desk members providing necessary support to resolve all operational issues. In addition to this ensuring completion of root cause analysis, driving to few repeat outages and a more mature support and service.

  • Manage all center, school, Call Center, Home and Regional office telecommunications issues. Manage Disaster Recovery Plan for Global telecommunications systems.

  • Research new telecommunication technologies and develop a strategic growth plan for telecommunications. Liaise with IT counterparts to develop a strategic plan and road map for future systems and technologies. Research Voice over IP for next system and manage implementation of such system in the Home Office.

  • Responsible for corporate telecommunications budget, resolving large billing issues, managing audit and P&L review.

  • 3rd Level telecommunications technical and administrative escalations.

Decision Making Authority

Telecommunications Manager is responsible for managing telecommunications related expenditures of approximately $3 million annually. Signing authority for contracts of $10,000 or less. Include IT Director in contract negations exceeding this amount. Responsible for preliminary negations and research. Direct management of the global telecommunications team and provide guidance and support for global telecommunications initiatives.

Recommended Education/Experience/Skills

College degree preferred but will waive based upon years of experience. Must have management experience and at least 5 years in the telecommunications field. Must have experience managing a telecommunications team from a larger corporate environment. Prior experience negotiating large contracts and services necessary. Understanding of networking issues needed. Experience with Call Centers, DR/BC, VoIP, P&L and Audit, and systems including NEC, Avaya, and Toshiba systems a plus. Experience working with and managing remote telecommunications teams is also a plus.
