Bike Mechanic- Bike, Boat & Ski Store- Freeport, ME

Our Bike, Boat & Ski Retail Store, located in Freeport, ME is currently searching for Bike Mechanics to become part of their team.

Position Purpose: Assemble and prepare bikes for sale. Perform a variety of service functions on new and used bikes. Through direct contact with customers provide exceptional service and share product and technical expertise to enhance the customer experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply shop standards in the assembly and repair of bikes across the full product line.
  • Evaluate mechanical condition of product and estimate cost of repairs.
  • Meet or exceed shop production standards.
  • Complete paperwork accurately and fully (record parts used, work performed, detail of torque, tolerance and standard procedures; complete pricing of job ticket) and process to next status or location.
  • Record and report any deficiencies not addressed by the repair work being done to the customer and or the appropriate leader.
  • Assist customer in the sale or repair process by sharing product and technical knowledge as appropriate.
  • Seek assistance from the Lead Service Writer bike/ski shop mechanic when problems outside the scope of your expertise arise.
  • Relay obstacles to timely and satisfactory completion of repair or service to the Lead Service Writer bike/ski shop.
  • Operate cash register as necessary.
  • Report or record replacement parts inventory and supply shortages to the Service Writer bike/ski shop. Maintain shop cleanliness including bench and common workspace.
  • Know and follow all safety rules and procedures. Report any unsafe act or workplace condition to leadership or security as appropriate.

Education Level: Vocational/Technical Degree
Years of Experience: 2+ years

  • Demonstrated excellent mechanical skills with 2+ year bike mechanic experience.
  • Proven experience in the assembly and repair of bikes and skis required.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to embrace change.
  • Ability to focus and manage to long term goals.
  • Readiness to seek outside help when faced with problems outside scope of experience.
  • Ability to operate a cash register.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills.
  • Ability to meet expectations of Sales Floor Rep.
  • Ability to organize and keep a tidy work space.
