This full-time, non-exempt, benefit-eligibleposition is located at the Anoka County Highway Department in Andover. Work schedule is primarily Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

May be required to work night shift on a limited basis for snow/ice control operations.

Overtime is likely throughout different times of the year.

May choose to work a 4 - 10-hour shift in the summer with supervisor approval.

Schedule may vary based on business needs and at supervisor discretion.

Work is completed outdoors in all weather conditions.

Pay and Benefits

  • Salary: $44,720 ($21.50 per hour).
  • 2022 Anoka County Highway Department Salary Schedule Grade B010: $42,161 to $63,856 ($20.27 to $30.70 per hour).

Duties and Responsibilities
These examples are not all inclusive and are intended to be illustrative of primary responsibilities of an Anoka County Equipment Operator.

  • Operate equipment such as, but not limited to, single-axle and tandem trucks, tailgate pavers, front-end loaders, backhoes, tractor mowers, skid steers, and motor graders.
  • Able to plow and wing snow removal and be able to apply ice control materials.
  • Perform seasonal road repair work including street sweeping, jetting out culverts, re-graveling road shoulders, maintaining catch basins and spillways, installing cross pipes, and driveway pipes.
  • Maintain county roads.
  • Finish concrete for curb and sidewalk areas.
  • Assist with traffic control, flagging, signing for work zone areas, debris, brush, and tree removal.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions and provide proper equipment checks before operating equipment each day.
  • Perform minor maintenance operations and daily service on assigned vehicles.
  • Accurately and promptly complete all required documentation such as vehicle inspection reports and incident/accident/injury forms.
  • Assist with callouts for emergency operations.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent education.
  • Two years of full-time (2,080 annual hours) paid job-related experience in operation of highway construction and/or maintenance equipment.
  • Must possess a valid Minnesota Class B Commercial Driver's License with air brake endorsement and be able to obtain a Class A with tanker and air brake endorsement within one year of employment OR possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with air brake endorsement upon hire and be able to obtain a tanker endorsement within 6 months of employment.
  • Must be available on a 24-hour emergency callout basis for emergency operations.
  • Successfully pass criminal history and driver's license background checks.
  • Successfully pass pre-employment drug screen and DOT physical.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in snow removal and ice control operations in a highway road systems environment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities needed:

  • Knowledge of road maintenance and materials.
  • Knowledge of bituminous, concrete, and pipe installation.
  • Engage with public in a professional manner.
  • Perform minor repairs and primary maintenance on highway equipment.
  • Operate equipment as required.
  • Work with hand and power tools.
  • Engage in strenuous physical activity.
