Job Description and Requirements

Photonic Software Developer (Optical Solutions Group)
Synopsys Optical Solutions Group (OSG) is looking for a Photonic software developer to contribute to our optical software products. The software is for a state-of-the-art photonic CAD/CAE program for the layout, design, and analysis of photonic device systems used by customers worldwide.

The candidate's key responsibilities include:

  • Building solutions in C++ for our photonic design software tools used by major consumer electronics companies
  • Able to research and develop complex photonic device modeling algorithms based on requirements from customers and Product Marketing
  • Employs state-of-the-art development tools and practices to ensure high-quality and high-performance solutions are delivered to the market efficiently
  • Utilizing solid software engineering practices such as code refactoring, code reviews, and regression test case creation and monitoring
  • Work with developers, testers, and customer representatives in an agile environment to create innovative photonic software solutions to take on cutting edge problems
  • Viewed as credible and respected industry technology expert in advanced key technology areas critical to Synopsys/OSG
Qualifications:
  • Ph.D in Photonics, Optics, Physics, Engineering or related field
  • Sound C++ Programming experience
  • Knowledge of several computational photonic algorithms including at least one of the following: RCWA, FEM, BPM, or FDTD
  • 2+ years of photonic systems modeling, analysis, and design experience using commercial photonic design tools in an academic or professional environment with excellent references
  • Demonstrated expertise and hands-on experience developing mathematical and computational modeling for solving challenging engineering problems in software
  • Experience and knowledge of modular object-oriented programming and software design best practice with an aptitude and passion of developing technical application software
  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple concurrent projects and ability to work well in a team as well as autonomously
  • Excellent written and verbal skills as well as the presentation kills with the ability to communicate highly technical information to peers
  • Knowledge and expertise in any of the following areas is a plus:
  • Experience with parallel processing/GPU
  • Knowledge or experience of machine learning algorithms
  • Experience with developing commercial engineering software
  • Knowledge or experience of Software processes such as Agile or Lean Software Development

The base salary range across the U.S. for this role is between $117,000 to $204,000. In addition, this role may be eligible for an annual bonus, equity, and other discretionary bonuses. The actual compensation offered will be based on a number of job-related factors, including location, skills, experience, and education.
