GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking a Senior Environmental Specialist with experience in Field Compliance Monitoring to work out of our Bridgeport office within our Power/Civil & Environmental Engineering Business Sector.

This position is in anticipation of more growth and is an evergreen position. As such, the timeline to hire is unknown and will be as needed. If you are interested in this type of work we encourage you to apply and we will reach out when we are ready to move forward. It could be several months.

The successful candidate will serve as a field lead to perform, with minimal supervision, monitoring of erosion and sediment controls on various types of construction projects; both site-based and linear Projects. The successful candidate should enjoy working in a challenging, fast-paced, and team-oriented environment. This position will afford an excellent opportunity for the individual to expand their experience and knowledge base in federal and state environmental regulations and methodologies in Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and the surrounding region.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Perform field monitoring of erosion and sediment (E&S) controls on various types of construction projects with minimal supervision, working independently.
  • Utilize electronic location devices such as a GPS or a GPS-enabled device to collect data tied to a Project location.
  • Review and understand E&S control and stormwater plans associated with both site and linear construction Projects.
  • Prepare periodic monitoring reports based on field observations. Reports may be submitted via a paper report or electronically.
  • When required, be able to perform basic calculations and review specifications, permits, and permit conditions.
  • As assigned, be able to assist with the preparation of environmental reports or permit applications such as wetland and stream delineation reports, erosion and sediment control plans, and sound studies.
  • Adhere to the Health and Safety requirements of GAI Consultants and GAI's clients.
  • Maintain QA/QC standards and adhere to the Quality Management System procedures of GAI Consultants and the quality procedures of GAI's clients.
  • Must be flexible; travel will be expected as part of this position with overnight stays out of town being required.
  • Technical writing ability


Physical Requirements:

Physical requirements of this position include the ability to hike moderate distances through unimproved terrain, utility rights-of-way, in remote areas, etc. in various temperatures and weather conditions. Ability to hear and visualize potential hazards during fieldwork or site visit situations.

Travel Requirements:

This position is predominantly a field position that requires travel and occasional overnight stays.

Qualifications
Education
Bachelors of Environmental Engineering (preferred)
Bachelors of Environmental and Earth Science (preferred)
Experience
2 - 4 years: Demonstrated experience in field monitoring. Consideration will be given to candidates that can specifically show E&S control monitoring experience. (required)
Knowledge of Section 401/404 permitting, stream and wetland surveys, delineation techniques, and permitting. (preferred)
Position requires a candidate with knowledge of National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) regulations and permitting and familiarity with environmental agency E&S control guidelines and best management practice (BMP) designs, construction, and maintenance. Consideration will be given to candidates that can demonstrate experience and comprehension of E&S control BMP concepts, designs, and maintenance requirements. (preferred)
Past experience working with an environmental review agency (e.g. state or local conservation district) either for the agency or with the agency as a consultant or owner is a plus. (preferred)
Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or GIS a plus. (preferred)
Experience in SWPPP, NPDES Permit Application and/or Erosion and Sediment Pollution Control Plan Development a plus. (preferred)
