Description

GAI Consultants is seeking a Project Environmental Specialist out of its Pittsburgh, PA; Bridgeport, WV; or Charleston, WV offices for both field and office environmental tasks. The successful candidate will be eligible for a sign-on bonus and enjoy working in a challenging, fast-paced, and team-oriented environment that will utilize their related experience to develop professionally and grow in today's global environment.

Job Duties:



  • Environmental field studies may include wetland and stream delineations, endangered/invasive species and habitat identification/monitoring, compliance monitoring, and other data collection as needed.
  • Office work may include data verification/entry and preparation of field reports, technical documents, and environmental permit applications; may include client and agency interface. Computer applications are used to store, tabulate, analyze, and report data.
  • Work is an estimated average of 85% field-based work and 15% office-based work; field or office durations may be weeks or months at a time, not 60%/40% each week. Overnight travel throughout the year, primarily throughout Virginia and surrounding mid-Atlantic states, is expected and could be to remote or topographically challenging locations. Seasonal field, weather, driving, and hazardous plant/animals conditions typical to the region will be encountered. Driving outside of daylight hours can be expected.


Education:



  • Bachelor's degree in Biology or other related disciplines (e.g., Geology, Geophysics, Hydrogeology, Geochemistry, Environmental Geology, Engineering Geology, Environmental Engineering) from an accredited college or university.


Licenses and Certifications:



  • A current valid state-issued driver's license is required
  • Wetland Delineation Training certification
  • Experience with Virginia Perennial Stream Designation protocols is required.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • General knowledge of basic environmental sciences.
  • Proficiency in standard office suite software applications.
  • OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER Certification.
  • Ability to demonstrate professional demeanor in written and verbal communications with clients, regulatory officials, and fellow employees.
  • Ability to write and convey complex thoughts and ideas in a clear, concise manner.
  • Ability to learn through on-the-job experience.
  • Tolerance for work in outdoor environments in a range of weather conditions.
  • Ability to work independently, both in an office environment and in the field.
  • Ability to travel locally, including occasional extended travel.
