Description

GAI Consultants Inc. is searching for a Senior Environmental Specialist to work in our Indianapolis office. This individual will focus on siting, environmental survey, permitting, and/or compliance monitoring of energy-related projects. Responsibilities will consist primarily of supporting environmental field work and reporting of wetland and stream delineations primarily in, but not limited to, Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky. This position is eligible for a sign-on bonus for the successful candidate.

Essential Duties:



  • Provide task lead and project management assistance with environmental permitting (local, state, and federal) and compliance support for key segments of the energy industry.
  • Assist with the coordination of interdisciplinary work teams and overall task management of field efforts for construction inspection and erosion control monitoring, wetland and stream delineations, engineering, and endangered species surveys and monitoring.
  • Assist with the completion of and management of the preparation of permit applications and associated environmental reporting.
  • Assist with proposal preparation and cost estimating.
  • Technical responsibility for natural resources, environmental science, GIS, and engineering tasks. Conduct quality control reviews.
  • Control expenditures within limitations of project budget and monitor budget status.
  • Interface with customers as necessary to ensure customer needs are met.
  • Provide status and progress reports to customers, project team, and management.
  • Other duties assigned by Supervisor.


Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Natural Resource Ecology, Engineering, Biology, or Environmental Science required, advanced degree preferred.
  • Work is expected to be split between 30-50% field-based work and 50-70% office-based work.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours and overtime.
  • Advanced technical writing ability.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills are a must.
  • Must be able to travel and work out of the office, including overnight trips. In-state travel is a requirement and extended field assignments are likely.
  • There may also be up to 25% out-of-state travel associated with this position on a project-specific basis or to assist other offices.
  • Technical knowledge of natural resources and field assessment methods.
  • This position requires knowledge and experience with erosion and sedimentation control monitoring. Construction inspections on linear projects are preferred.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Qualifications
Education
Bachelors of Biology (required)
Experience
4 years: Experience commensurate with environmental consulting practices with a background in environmental science, ecology, or construction inspection services with a focus on wetland and stream delineations. (required)
Experience with environmental permitting and regulatory agencies in the Midwest and/or neighboring states, related to Section 401 and 404 Clean Water Act Permitting and other similar permits. (required)
