Logistics Manager

At our site in Ann Arbor, we are currently looking for a Logistics Manager to be a part of our growing team.

Job Responsibilities




  • Manage and coordinate corporate logistics teams with the ability to be a trainer, a teacher, and provide guidance as well as mentorship to the team members. Work with the team to ensure adequate back up coverage for all roles and fill in during absences when necessary.
  • Provide subject matter knowledge and expertise for Wacker Corporate logistics processes. Interact with Sales, Customer Service, Supply Chain, Customs and Trade Compliance, Shipping Points, Warehouses and Freight Forwarders for process optimization to ensure customer satisfaction. Manage the logistics process and ensure compliance with all required government laws, partner government agencies and licensing regulations.
  • Manage and communicate as an escalation point of contact with Wacker Germany, steamship lines, rail lines, airlines, carriers, warehouses, and forwarders to ensure timely movement of Wacker goods. Identify and implement software sources to optimize tracking shipments while minimizing costs incurred by Wacker.
  • Responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining policies and procedures for the logistics team. Periodically review ISM procedure and work process documents and update.
  • Hands on, process owner and fully engaged Manager of the logistics teams. Work directly with Supply Chain, Customer Service, Carriers and Wacker locations around the world to collaborate and optimize best practices. Independent decision making related to logistical financial obligations and approval on behalf of Wacker. Responsible for team development including annual reviews and promotional opportunities
  • Optimize and automate existing policies and processes creating standardization and considering compliance and improved process efficiency while implementing and utilizing automation as the primary goals. Includes responsibility for audits
  • Implement a cross training plan and strategy. Back up duties for team members as requir
  • Interface directly as an escalation point and process improvement role with all Logistics Service Providers (LSP's). Work with stakeholders as primary point of contact for escalation. Work with Procurement of Logistics as well as Supply Chain Teams for demand management and forecasting during global and local tender.



Job Qualifications




  • Bachelors Degree in related field
  • 5 years logistics experience in a global corporation
  • Management and facilitation of process improvement projects
  • Experience driving efficiency improvements with particular attention to automation
  • Management experience or previously demonstrated leadership skills
  • SAP Business Objects delivery, shipping, and inventory handling experience
  • Proven communication and writing skills with all levels of an organization
  • Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision
  • Manage/prioritize multiple teams and tasks as required in a fast-paced environment
  • Customer Service skills in pressured situations
  • Strong business acumen, analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to coach and develop direct reports
  • Knowledge of CTPAT and US Export Compliance (preferred)
  • Knowledge of US Domestic transportation and warehousing
  • NAFTA Certification, Import and Export Compliance, FDA etc. (preferred)
  • Knowledge of US DOT, IATA and IMDG regulations
