JOB TITLE: Tech - Nuclear Med

POSITION SUMMARY: The Tech - Nuclear Med performs a variety of duties in preparing patients for diagnostic scans of particular organs to furnish diagnostic information. Operates nuclear medicine gamma camera and other radioactive detecting devices. Produces images and calculations of radioactive isotopes specific to each exam ordered. The Tech - Nuclear Med works with all patient groups, geriatric, pediatric, trauma and surgical patients.

KEY PERFORMANCE FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs a variety of Nuclear Medicine exams. Assist Radiologist and referring physicians. Provides appropriate nuclear medicine skills. Provides appropriate patient care. Has a clear understanding of calculations for isotopes for different age groups and exams. Has understanding of different cultural needs and language barriers and languages hotline. Provides leadership and instruction to other personnel and nuclear medicine students. Assists the nuclear medicine coordinator with radiation safety responsibilities. Operates departments of responsibility in such a way as to meet the fiscal goals of the organization. Follows policies and procedures set by Supervisors and Directors. Works to maintain satisfaction of department customers to include patients, employees and physicians through effective communication and appropriate responsiveness to customer issues.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Radiology or Nuclear Medicine Current in: CPR Certification, TDH MRT license, ARRT or NMTCB registry.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to read and write in English
  • Ability to speak and hear, to allow discussions with employees and peers
  • Ability to cope with and remain calm under stress
  • Dosimetry badge must be worn at all times
  • Ability to evaluate and interpret information and make independent decisions
  • Bending and lifting (50-75 lbs), grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing and pulling
  • Electrical and radiant energy hazards are present
  • Ability to respond to pages
  • Near visual acuity and depth perception to examine exposed film for pertinent detail
  • Lead protective gloves, and apron must be worn during certain procedures
