Pay Range Information
Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate's qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.
Position Summary Information


Job Description Summary
Provide support to the Principal Investigator to determine research methods and conduct laboratory experiments for viral molecular biology and immunology. The Research Associate plans, designs and conducts highly technical and complex research projects independently and in consultation with supervisor. Analyses research data and provides interpretations. Contributes to the development of research documentation for publication and/or presentation. Prepares technical reports, papers, graphs and/or records. Provides training and supervision for research support staff and students, as needed.
Responsibilities

  • Conduct laboratory experiments Independently and in consultation with the supervisor.

    • Prepare technical reports, papers, graphs and/or records and provides interpretations.
    • Maintains and updates record of all experimental studies. Stores all biochemical data in digital format on computers and backs up regularly.



  • Consult and assist Principal Investigator

    • Work alongside Principal Investigator to determine method, details, and means of performing experiments.
    • Furnish regular updates to Principal Investigator.
    • Works alongside Principal Investigator to train and supervise student trainees and research support staff.


  • Laboratory

    • Use equipment and laboratory space accordingly to work contract
    • Contribute as needed to the procurement and maintenance of adequate stocks of research supplies and instrumentation.


  • Contribute to the development of research documentation for publication and/or presentation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • MS or PhD in relevant field including laboratory research in immunology; or its equivalent via work experience in research skill and subject matter knowledge by the beginning of employment at Chapman University.
  • Knowledge of research and experimental methods, particularly in immunology and flow cytometry.
  • Ability to conduct research in a timely manner and document all procedures and data.
  • Strong computation and writing skills.
  • Ability to work alone and/or with students or research support staff.
  • Ability to collaborate with Principal Investigator and other faculty before and during research.
  • Strong understanding of lab safety procedures with ability to maintain a safe and organized lab.
  • Ability to follow appropriate research protocols and university policies and procedures.

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with data analysis and visualization using R, Python or programming experience in another code-based programming language.
