Monroe, VA 23651** Performs Geographic Information System (GIS) activities as well as electronic data management for the project. Activities include automation and Integration of Mapping, Main Extensions Design, update and maintain the GIS Database, Maintain various electronic data for the project, assists with field service and maintenance technician crews as needed. 1. Directs and performs maintenance of computer applications related to Computer Assisted Drafting (Cad) and GIS. 2. Performs activities required in the use of GPS hardware, data collection, organization, and manipulation. 3. Documents processes for data collection of all types and educates other users in maintaining the data.. 4. Plans and arranges work assignments so that the projects may be carried out with safety, promptness, and economy. 5. Assists other departments concerning access to GIS Data. 6. Consults with supervisor(s) on the difficult problems involved in the work and advises them of unusual situations. 7. Operates Company vehicles, as needed. 8. Assists other employees with field service and maintenance activities as needed. 9. Responds to emergency situations safely, promptly, and with a willingness to complete tasks. 10. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or general education degree (GED), supplemented by courses in civil engineering design and drafting and engineering practices equivalent to six months of intensive schooling, or applicable equivalent in either job training or study. * Minimum one year of technical drafting, and one year of CAD course work, in utility or engineering work is acceptable. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities * Knowledge of the technical and engineering principles database, workflow, mapping, and drafting. * Knowledge of CAD and GIS software. * Ability to do original research, make logical analyses, prepare reports covering estimated development, implementation, and maintenance costs of GIS applications, and recommendations in a clear and concise manner. * Possess sound judgment required to properly weigh the relative importance of the various problems involved in the work. * Familiar with the operations of sections and departments with which the work of the division is involved. * Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. * Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. * Ability to use GIS and other engineering software as well as other software such as word processors, spreadsheets, databases, email, and Internet software. * Aptitude for attention to detail and accuracy in work habits. * Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. * Ability to drive and operate a vehicle. Required Certification / Licenses / Training * Valid Driver's license to operate vehicles in the Commonwealth of Virginia. * Water Distribution License is a plus. * CDL is a plus.
