UNM Medical Group, Inc. is hiring for a Medical Physicist to join our UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center. This opportunity is a full-time day shift opening located in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

*Sign-on Bonus and Relocation Available*

Minimum $144,269 - Midpoint $227,926*

*Salary is determined based on years of total relevant experience.

*Salary is based on 1.0 FTE (full time equivalent) or 40 hours per week. Less than 40 hours/week will be prorated and adjusted to the appropriate FTE.

Summary

Under indirect supervision, provides professional medical physics services for a principal radiation research/therapy unit of the UNM Medical Group. Evaluates and interprets medical radiation treatment prescriptions. Collaborates with medical providers in the design and modification of effective radiation treatments for patients; oversees and monitors patient treatment plans, provides quality assurance, participates in the development and execution of equipment monitoring, calibration, and safety surveys. As directed, participates in the implementation of new technologies and meets expected timelines.

Minimum Job Requirements Medical Physicist:

PhD degree in Radiation Therapeutic Medical Physics or an equivalent field or discipline. Board Eligible as a certified Medical Physicist (American Board of Radiology or equivalent). Verification of education and licensure will be required if selected for hire.

Duties and Responsibilities of a Medical Physicist:



  1. Develops or assists with the development and implementation of policies and procedures consistent with those of the organization to ensure efficient and safe operation of radiotherapy treatments.
  2. Participates in the education and training of dosimetrists, radiation therapy technologists, students, physicians and related specialists, as appropriate.
  3. Provides HDR treatments, prostate see implants, placing diode detectors to patients.
  4. Provides professional program assistance in the areas of patient simulation.
  5. Assists in the development of specifications for purchasing and assists in acceptance testing and commissioning of a wide range of advanced radiation therapy equipment.
  6. Performs calibration checks and quality assurance measurements of linear accelerators and other sources of radiation.
  7. Develops, and participates in integrated radiation therapy quality control programs.
  8. Advises and consults with medical providers and specialists concerning various issues involving individual patients.
  9. Assists with shielding analysis of treatment rooms.
  10. As directed, participates in budget planning, and reviews fiscal reports as required; participates in planning for future facility and equipment requirements.
  11. As directed, assists in research efforts in clinical radiotherapy.
  12. Maintains professional contact with peers through attendance at professional meetings and related activities.
  13. Participates in the establishment and coordination of broadly based radiation safety programs.
  14. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  15. Assists in implementation and monitoring of a Quality Assurance Program to meet state and federal guidelines/requirements.
