Position

Are you passionate about the potential of carbon removal to drive progress on climate?

GreenBiz Group is seeking a full-time Director, Carbon to lead our work on carbon markets, carbon removal and adjacent topics. This includes the launch of two exciting new products in 2023 and the development of the Carbon Program at VERGE, the leading climate tech event.

The ideal candidate is self-directed, passionate, curious and connected. This position will evolve to align with the strategic view the Director, Carbon brings.

This role will report to the SVP and Executive Director, VERGE, and collaborate closely with other GreenBiz analysts. Beyond the responsibilities outlined below, additional duties may emerge as business needs for this position evolve.

Key responsibilities include:

Lead the development and execution of the Carbon Program at VERGE.

  • Define the scope and focus of the Carbon Program and develop content accordingly, including building sessions, tutorials and workshops, and identifying and recruiting content partners, moderators and speakers to bring content to life.
  • Spearhead the development of an advisory board and engage with new audiences in the carbon markets space to support strategic growth of the Carbon Program and nurture the community it serves.
  • Support the broader VERGE team's success, including providing feedback on startup pitch applications, identifying strategic community partners, and collaborating with the sales team on sponsorships and high value thought leadership opportunities.

Develop GreenBiz's work in carbon markets and your own voice as a thought leader by launching a Carbon Weekly newsletter.

  • Stay current on news, trends, announcements, policies and investments shaping carbon markets, carbon removal and adjacent topics, and collaborate with the GreenBiz Editorial team to launch a new Carbon Weekly newsletter.

Deepen GreenBiz's engagement with carbon market buyers by launching a peer network.

  • Develop, launch and lead a peer network for carbon market buyers, modeled on our existing peer network products.

Shape GreenBiz's strategic position in carbon markets and carbon removal, and lead a strategy to grow its influence.

  • Become the face of all-things carbon markets and carbon removal at GreenBiz. This includes public speaking, from moderating panels to appearing on podcasts to presenting to partners and colleagues.
  • Get deep in the sector. This includes identifying high-value speaking and media opportunities, forging strategic partnerships with key organizations, representing at industry events, and spearheading new products and offerings that are strategic to the company and community.

Support the broader GreenBiz team's success.

  • Contribute to programming at other events, including in person events (Circularity, GreenBiz, GreenFin) and our online events on the net zero transition, electrification and other topics.
  • Host webcasts and sponsor interviews where feasible and helpful.
Qualifications

We are looking for someone with deep expertise, understanding and connections in carbon markets and carbon removal. This position is ideal for someone who is mid-level career (with 8-10 years of relevant experience), and interested in taking a leadership position to own and grow a program with little oversight. We are looking for someone who is:
