The Federal Health Plan Consultant will serve as a core member of UnitedHealthcare Retiree Solution's team focused on federal retiree benefits. This critical position is responsible for developing relationships with local HR contacts at federal agencies around the country. The Federal Health Plan Consultant is responsible for both the direct agency relationship as well as, presenting to members and must quickly transitions between being a strategic partner to local agency HR leads and delivering presentations to large groups of potential members.

The position is a combination of external relationship building and strategic sales support, and the successful candidate will be working to ensure the sales and account management team meets growth targets.

If you are located in the Eastern or Central time zones, you will have the flexibility to work remotely* as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • 50% - Relationship development and educational meetings
  • Develop relationships with federal agencies around the country through outbound calls and in person visits. Establish yourself as a strategic partner for agency HR teams. Schedule and deliver educational meetings to educate retirees and soon-to-be-retirees about the UnitedHealthcare plans available through the FEHB program. Support conference marketing and follow-up activities
  • 25% - Market analysis
  • Conduct extensive research to thoroughly understand the options available to our target audience
  • 25% - Technical/Operational/Executive Level Support
  • Provide high level technical/executive support for FEHBP sales lead and leadership team including assisting with preparation for internal and external presentations. Manage special projects on an as needed basis

Required Qualifications:



  • College degree or experience working with FEHB plans
  • Active Health Insurance license or be in the process of earning one (must commit to holding the license within 3 months of hire)
  • Experience speaking in front of crowds of 50+ people
  • Reside within commutable distance of a major city HUB airport (ie Chicago, DC, Dallas, Minneapolis, Boston)
  • Willingness and ability to travel 50% with increased travel (up to 75% between October and December)
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds (required for transporting materials to retiree events)
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination is an essential job function of this role. Candidates located in states that mandate COVID-19 booster doses must also comply with those state requirements. UnitedHealth Group will adhere to all federal, state and local regulations as well as all client requirements and will obtain necessary proof of vaccination, and boosters when applicable, prior to employment to ensure compliance.   • Experience balancing customer/member requests and the needs of the business
  • Proven organizational skills
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated track record in building relationships internally and externally
  • Ability to navigate a complex business environment
  • Appropriate sense of urgency and ownership for resolving issues
  • Computer literacy, including expertise leveraging Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York City, or Washington Residents Only Residents Only: The salary range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York City, or Washington residents is $85,000 to $167,300. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
