This position within UHC's Employer & Individual Underwriting team will work to improve data processes while finding ways to advance the technology for our daily operations team through project work and creative solutions. Responsible for designing/developing, programming, maintaining data and business systems. You will work with vast amounts of data from multiple sources to maintain business operations and provide operational analysis utilized for decision making. Responsibilities include the manipulation and analysis of data in support of a variety of analytic solutions.

Must be self-directed and creative as you will deal with some very interesting and complex issues. As a key resource to others you must maintain a high degree of accuracy along with attention to detail, excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to always meet deadlines.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Support incidents, problems, enhancements, and projects for Risk Management / Underwriting Applications working directly with end users
  • Identify enhancements, design and build solutions to support business systems to improve supportability, operability or performance of supported application(s)
  • Works with less structured, more complex issues
  • Able to facilitate end to end testing and deployment procedures
  • Independently creating and optimizing SQL by maintaining/updating server and tables and creating queries to support business and reporting needs
  • Gathering and combining information and data from various locations and data sets within SQL
  • Create and edit SQL Stored Procedures
  • Develop and maintain SSIS Packages. Accountable for all departmental batch job processes
  • Create forms, set up and edit macros, and create and edit queries within MSAccess
  • Perform analysis on existing systems to ensure performance and reliability, enhance scalability, meet security requirements, and interoperable and maintainable technology portfolio.
  • Provide ad-hoc analytical support to operations
  • Provides subject matter expertise on all data elements and report content
  • Drive resolution and document root cause for defects in application
  • Conduct code reviews to ensure the work delivered to the team is of high quality standards
  • Create and maintain support documentation
  • Proactively manage issues/risks and escalate them as needed in a timely manner
  • Effectively collaborate with numerous technology and business teams across multiple platforms and locations

Required Qualifications:



  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience. BA/BS in MIS, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Business or a related field
  • 4+ years of experience performing significant data analysis and report development
  • 4+ years of experience with SQL including complex queries, stored procedures, optimization
  • 2+ years of experience working on projects and creating ideas to enhance current technology and data resources
  • Experience with end-to-end testing and deployment procedures
  • Experience with Teradata, MYSQL
  • Intermediate level of programming knowledge (reporting code) and of relational databases, database structures and design, systems design, data management, data warehouse.
  • Proficient in creating and maintaining SSIS packages
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel (macros, pivot tables, charts), Access and PowerPoint
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment-based work authorization. F-1 visa holders with Optional Practical Training (OPT) who will require H-1B status, TNs, or current H-1B visa holders will not be considered. H1-B and green card sponsorship is not available for this position



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience working with SFTP, ECG & FTP (Ipswitch) for document/data sharing
  • Experience with reporting and creating queries within PAU/Data Mart/Stratus
  • Experience with multiple platforms and systems preferred: USP, PRIME, NICE, UHOPS, iPro

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York City, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York City, or Washington residents is $85,000 to $167,300. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
