2023 Summer Nurse Extern Requisition #: 617925 Location: Sibley Memorial Hospital, Washington, DC 20016 Category: Nursing Support/Patient Care Work Shift: Rotating Shift Work Week: Temporary Weekend Work Required: Yes Date Posted: Feb. 2, 2023 As a Student Nurse Extern, you will perform a variety of patient care tasks under the delegation of a RN. Monitors and records vital signs, weights, I and O and pulse oximetry and reports changes to RN. Problem solves with patient's family and all care givers to provide the most effective and compassionate care. Reviews charts for order clarification. Documents care provided according to established guidelines. May be trained on the following skills: Sterile dressing changes Specimen collection Wound care Trachea care and suctioning IV insertions and saline lock flush Our Student Nurse Extern opportunities will be in the following areas: Medical/Surgical Oncology Emergency Advanced Critical Care (Intermediate) Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Labor and Delivery Special Care Nursery Family Centered Care (Mother/Baby) Perioperative Services Behavioral Health Hours: Full time, 36 hours per week Requirements: The summer externship begins June 5, 2023. Must attend mandatory Hospital orientation June 5th - June 9th. Ideally looking for those in final year or rising seniors in their RN program and graduating in Dec. '23 or May '24 Successful completion of at least one Med/Surg rotation. Basic Life Support Certification required.
