The Johns Hopkins Hospital is looking for a Program Director of Functional Unit Nursing Programs for Bed Management. Responsibilities include:

Ensures that all aspects of the nursing function within the Bed Management Center are effective in realizing maximum patient throughput for JHH.
  • Provides leadership and direction in the coordination of patient placement activities.
  • Establishes policies, procedures and guidelines governing patient placement that are consistent with regulatory (e.g. EMTALA) and institutional standards.
  • Explores innovative approaches and technology advancements that streamlines the patient placement process. Identifies opportunities for improving patient care and ensures that appropriate services are provided.
  • Assists in resolving patient placement barriers that occur with the department of nursing and accepting inpatient service provider.
  • Provides leadership in collaborating with the clinical teams to facilitate patient admissions, discharges, intra-hospital and inter-facility transfer processes. Responsibilities include analyzing information received on the electronic bed board and from clinical staff to coordinate assignment of patients to the appropriate clinical unit.
  • Provides training, leadership and guidance to the nursing bed and shift coordinators to ensure timely and appropriate admissions to the hospital.
  • Documents all functions as required by regulatory agencies and/or organizations.


Ensures that all aspects of the administrator on site (AOS) responsibilities by the bed coordinators are implemented and the competencies are clearly outlined and managed.
  • Establishes policies, procedures and guidelines governing the AOS role.
  • Oversee orientation and ongoing education related to the AOS role.


Participates as a member of the command center and JHH nursing leadership teams providing routine communication and patient flow updates to the executive team and stakeholders.
  • Works collaboratively with directors of nursing and nurse managers to solve patient flow and placement issues.


Shifts: 8-hour days, Monday-Friday

Required Education/Experience/Certification:
  • Master's degree from an accredited school of nursing
  • Active registered nurse licensure in the state of Maryland
  • Active BLS CPR certification
  • 5 years of nursing experience, with minimum of two years of interdisciplinary or interdepartmental program/project management experience.
