The Naval Nuclear Laboratory comprises the U.S. Department of Energy locations and personnel responsible for developing advanced naval nuclear propulsion technology, providing technical support to ensure the safety and reliability of our nation's naval nuclear reactors, and training the Sailors who operate those reactors in the U.S. Navy's submarines and aircraft carrier Fleets. Job Description

group is looking for a Nuclear Engineer to join their team. Joining this team, you will have an opportunity to develop, evaluate, and implement computational methods for use in reactor physics and nuclear engineering design computer programs. The Reactor Physics group develops and implements particle transport theory and computational methods to solve engineering problems on modern high-performance computing platforms. Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

  • MS degree in Nuclear Engineering or Engineering Physics from an accredited college or university and a minimum of four years of relevant experience; or
  • PhD in Nuclear Engineering or Engineering Physics from an accredited college or university and a minimum of one year of relevant experience
  • Experience with particle transport and computational methods.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience developing new capabilities for Monte Carlo and/or deterministic particle transport codes, providing the necessary user support, documentation, and testing to bring the capabilities into general use
  • Demonstrated leadership in your area of cognizance, contributing to the advancement of reactor physics methods technology, and routinely supporting teaching and training opportunities, design reviews, software code reviews, and process/quality improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrated abilities in technical writing and presentation of technical material.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop scientific software in a team environment.
  • Experience with reactor core design nuclear engineering fundamentals.
  • Experience with Fortran 2008, C++, Python, Unix/Linux, and other programming/scripting languages.
  • Experience with parallel programming and/or programming with GPUs.
