If so, Helena Products Group (HPG) has a role that may interest you. We are looking for a talented Chemist who can think holistically to develop formulations that will literally help feed the world. Formulations experience is preferred however we are happy to show you the ropes. You'll learn from our experienced Product Development Manager and have the opportunity to see your ideas come to life as you build your own personal brand that growers in the industry come to recognize.

Each day will be different. You'll wear a variety of hats while continuously learning and putting your problem-solving skills to use as you identify solutions to help customers and develop new products. You will perform a wide range of tests and research services that are required for the development, manufacturing and support of adjuvants as well as pesticides. You will also be very involved with quality control of raw materials and finished goods.

The employee's primary duty must be the performance of office or non-manual work directly related to the management or general business operations of Helena or Helena's customers. This also includes the exercise of discretion and independent judgement with respect to matters of significance.

What your day may look like



  • Develops adjuvants and pesticide formulations.
  • Advises on which raw materials are best suited in a manufacturing blend.
  • Assists in the resolution of problems that may develop in the research, manufacturing, and application of pesticide and adjuvant formulations.
  • Performs routine tests on various pesticides to determine a variety of results including but not limited to, compatibility, PH reading, particle size, storage (shelf life), handling, application, etc.
  • Reads, interprets and assists in writing patents.
  • Develops SOPs and advises the manufacturing sites on quality control processes and procedures, guidelines and best practices for storage, handling and blending of raw material fertilizers to maximize quality of finished products.
  • Keeps appropriate data in Excel, lab notebooks and OneDrive. Reports results to leader in a timely manner.
  • Routinely uses testing equipment to ensure raw materials and finished products meet specifications.
  • Uses Helena's FileMaker Pro database system.
  • Other work duties as assigned by leader.
  • Reliable and regular attendance is expected.



Education and experience needed for this position



  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry or related field is required.
  • Five years of formulation work experience is preferred.
  • Four years minimum Agrochemical industry experience is preferred.



Other skills that will help you succeed



  • Excellent mathematical aptitude (algebra, percentages, PPM calculations, metric to English conversions).
  • Advanced practices and principles of chemical, biological and related sciences.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, One Drive, and Outlook.
  • Ability to operate Malvern Mastersizer or Coulter particle size analyzer.
  • Existing relationships with suppliers and manufacturers.
  • Interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Organization skills.
  • Ability to understand and interpret technical instructions and procedures.

Your work environment and the physical aspects of the job

The work environment for this position is that of a typical plant or laboratory environment where the noise level is usually moderate to loud. In this position, you will regularly work near moving equipment/mechanical parts and could be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, chemical and biological hazards, vibrations and a risk of electrical shock. This position requires you to use your hands for many different tasks and to talk, hear, walk, stand and sit. You may be occasionally required to lift or move up to 10 pounds.
