Join the Anoka County Parks Department and experience an opportunity to work outdoors during some of Minnesota's most beautiful seasons - spring and summer! Documenting and reporting on-site visitor counts is vital for the park system to manage resources and allocate staff. Seasonal Park Use Counters assist the county and the Metropolitan Council by providing significant user data for all regional parks and trails in Anoka County.

The employment period for Seasonal Park Use Counter is May through October.

This seasonal, non-exempt position will work at various parks locations throughout Anoka County. The primary location of this position will be Bunker Hills Regional Park, but travel may be required to the following locations below.

  • Coon Lake County Park (Columbus, MN)
  • Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park (Coon Rapids, MN)
  • Lake George Regional Park (Oak Grove, MN)
  • Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Park Reserve (Lino Lakes, MN)
  • Riverfront Regional Park (Fridley, MN)

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Duties and Responsibilities
These examples are not all inclusive and are intended to be illustrative of primary responsibilities of an Anoka County Seasonal Park Use Counter.

  • Count visitors at various regional parks and locations in all weather.
  • Maintain daily reports.
  • Work a varied schedule as assigned, including weekends and evenings.
  • Maintain a flexible work schedule.
  • Perform other duties as assigned (park surveys, special event staffing, office help, etc.)

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications (Required)

  • Must be 16 years of age or older.
  • Must have transportation to various regional parks and trails in Anoka County.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License.
  • Must successfully pass criminal history and driver's license background checks.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed

  • Detailed and accurate record keeping.
  • Oral and written communication.
  • Basic math and written documentation using a pencil and computer friendly form.
  • Take direction and complete assigned tasks.
  • Travel to various park and trail locations.
  • Work independently without direct supervision.

Work Environment

95% of the work performed will be in the field; 5% will be in an office setting. Employee will be required to work in all weather conditions during the months of May through October. Employee may be required to complete reports in the park office. Count locations are at park entrances and trail access points, some of which are in remote areas. Employee is eligible to claim mileage for travel between count site locations when employee has multiple counts scheduled in the same day.

GRADE LEVEL

Salary
$13 per hour.

Year 1 - $13.00 per hour

Year 2 - $13.50 per hour

Year 3 - $14.00 per hour

Year 4 - $14.50 per hour

Year 5 - $15.00 per hour

Year 6 - $15.50 per hour

Hours

Seasonal; up to 40 hours per pay week.
Varied hours including mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays, for10-40 hours per week. May include extended hours on weekends and holidays as required.
Shifts will be in increments of 2 and 4 hours between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.

Selection Process

The examination/selection process for this classification will consist of a review of your training and experience from the application materials submitted. The most qualified candidates will be invited for an oral exam and/or interview.
