We are here for life's journey. Department AnesthesiologistsJob Summary 1. While under the medical direction of a qualified Anesthesiologist, makes the initial approach to a patient to obtain a preliminary pre-anesthetic health history, perform an appropriate pre-anesthetic physical examination and record pertinent data in an organized and legible manner for review by an Anesthesiologist; define the patient's current physical status as it relates to the planned anesthetic. 2. Performs or assists in conducting diagnostic laboratory and related studies as appropriate, such as drawing arterial and venous blood samples. 3. Establishes noninvasive and invasive routine monitoring modalities as delegated by the responsible Anesthesiologist. 4. Assists in the application and interpretation of advanced monitoring techniques such as pulmonary artery catheterization, electroencephalographic spectral analysis, echocardiography and evoked potentials. 5. Assists in inducing, maintaining and altering anesthesia levels, administers adjunctive treatment and provides continuity of anesthetic care into and during the postoperative recovery period. 6. Assists in the use of advanced life support techniques such as high frequency ventilation and intra-arterial cardiovascular assist devices. 7. Assists in making post- anesthesia patient rounds by recording patient progress notes, compiling and recording case summaries and by transcribing standing and specific orders. 8. Performs evaluation and treatment procedures essential to responding to life-threatening situations, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation based on established protocols (basic life support, advance cardiac life support, and pediatric advanced life support). 9. Assists in duties in intensive care units, inpatient pain consultations and other settings, as appropriate. 10. Trains Anesthesia Technicians in the calibration, trouble shooting and use of patient monitors. 11. Assists in the clinical instruction of others as assigned. 12. Takes on-call duty as assigned and maintains availability when on-call outside the hospital. Employs monitoring of patients which meets or exceeds current department standard of care requirements. Attends monthly department meetings and actively participates in decisions pertaining to efficiency of the department. 13. Meets recertification guidelines of AAAA; and renewal of Colorado Certified Anesthesia Assistant license every two (2) years. Maintains staff privileges/complies with credentialing as required by DHMC Medical Staff by-laws. Answers all official letters of inquiry from hospital-wide or departmental QRI Committees. 14. Pursues and attains more than minimum CME credits. Actively participates in in-service education. Attends departmental teaching and M&M conferences. Certified in ACLS. Education:
Work Experience: 1-2 years of experience, new grads will be accepted. Licenses: 1. Basic Life Support for Health Care Provider Certification/CPR. Active Registered Certified Anesthesia Assistant in the state of Colorado or a participating compact state. 2. Board Certified Anesthesia Assistant License. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 1. Skilled in the use and maintenance of anesthesia equipment. 2. Skill to communicate effectively with physicians, patients and other hospital employees. 3. Ability to assist with patients who may need ICU ventilators, high-risk intubations and facilitate fiber optic intubations. Computers and Technology 1. Computer skills required.
