Summary

This is a great opportunity for interested applicants that are 18+ ( or 21+ for those who will drive the mini-bus) who are looking for a job with flexible hours, working directly with elementary aged students, and looking for a fun, creative job where you have a chance daily to make a positive impact in the local community.

As the After School Camp Director, you will directly supervise children in Grades K-5 and the After School Camp Leaders (16+ year old staff) in a variety of after school camp activities that promote continued recreation and learning during the school year.

Peter Kirk After School Camp - The City of Kirkland's After School Camp program is located at the Peter Kirk Community Center, 352 Kirkland Ave.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The After School Camp will host up to 25 campers each weekday afternoon and will cater to children in grades K-5. The camp spends time outside (weather permitting) playing games, going on walks, arts and crafts, helping with homework, and doing just about anything fun we can think up! The After School Camp Director is instrumental in directly planning and implementing various activities that promote health, wellness, and recreational opportunities.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Applicant must possess or be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification prior to position start date. If not currently certified, there may be opportunities for First Aid/CPR certification upon hire.
  • Applicant must successfully complete a thorough national background check as required by the Child/Adult Abuse Information Act.
  • Applicant must be at least 18 years or older at time of application.

Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 1-year of experience working with children in a camp, elementary school, or early childcare type setting.

Other

Working Conditions & Physical Activities:
Performs work in indoor and outdoor settings including community center facilities, parks, playgrounds, beaches, pool, and commercial recreation sites. Exposure to extended periods of direct sunlight and/or cool and damp weather is possible. May be asked to drive a 14-passenger minibus. Training will be provided upon hire to qualified applicants.

Selection Process:
Applicants whose qualifications most closely match our requirements and are selected to move forward in the process will be notified by phone, email or NeoGov notices. Candidates who are selected to interview will be required to complete a national criminal background check.

Applicants who are hired for this program will be given the opportunity to work in the program during the current school year on an as needed basis for staff absences. Applicant will become primary staff for 2023-2024 school year.

Hours of Work:
Peter Kirk After School camp operates Monday through Friday during the school year and will follow the Lake Washington School District Calendar.

Current program hours (up to 17 hours per week):
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday - 2:45 PM - 6:00 PM (3.25 hours each day)
Wednesday - 1:30 PM - 6:00 PM (4.5 hours)
