JOB SUMMARY



The Engineer I- Manufacturing role is responsible for carrying out assigned projects involving Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering techniques to improve production efficiencies and reduce costs. Coordinates a variety of projects from inception through completion and follow-up with minimal direction or supervision. Does time studies and data development for rates, line balancing and cost estimates. Completes workplace improvements, methods, and layouts. Investigates, recommends, and installs new or improved processes.




PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES




  • Analyze reports and data collected to determine and recommend changes in methods, tooling, and/or equipment to more fully utilize manpower and time to increase productivity, quality, or product value.
  • Provide supporting data regarding standards and assist in the presentation of such data as required
  • Work closely with Plant Supervision and Management at all levels to determine feasibility of proposed projects and provide data or information for accurate decisions.
  • Supply technical guidance to Production Supervision concerning methods, time studies, production standards, and payroll practices to maximize efficiency.
  • Provides departments with necessary information and statistical data concerning cost standards, variance analysis, budgetary controls, cost reduction analyses, and product cost estimates for new or changed products. To include, but not limited to the following:

    • Ability to absorb extensive raw data (e.g. forecast/demand data, finite work elements, quality data, scrap/rework data), performs detailed analysis on the data, and creates logical summaries to use during facility layout.
    • Solid foundation/understanding of manufacturing financial metrics - working capital, Raw/WIP/FGI inventory, inventory turns, productivity, efficiency, order fill rate, on-time delivery, etc.


  • Determine machine and manpower requirements for production and make recommendations to Management, particularly for annual business plans and forecasts.
  • Successful crafting of a capital appropriation request (E201) with supporting EVA calculations as well as project management leadership.
  • Lead teams and giving direction to production personnel (direct & indirect labor) and supporting personnel.
  • Familiarity with MRP planning & production scheduling techniques.
  • Experience with designing and implementing machine/assembly cells and factory layouts.
  • Experience with design-for-manufacturing methods (desired).
  • Understanding of inventory control techniques and knowledge of implications of BOM accuracy, inventory accuracy, and material transactions/movement within the factory.
  • Understanding of the process of engineering revisions, engineering change notices, engineering deviations and the corresponding impact on manufacturing.
  • Some exposure to the various aspects of a supply chain - from distribution, to mfg., to first-tier suppliers, to second-tier suppliers - and the typical problems within the chain.
  • A sound mathematical sense and ability to explain equations in simplified, business terms.




KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES




  • Experience with designing and implementing machine/assembly cells and factory layouts.
  • Experience with design-for-manufacturing methods (desired).
  • Understanding of inventory control techniques and knowledge of implications of BOM accuracy, inventory accuracy, and material transactions/movement within the factory.
  • Understanding of the process of engineering revisions, engineering change notices, engineering deviations and the corresponding impact on manufacturing.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work with all levels of employees
  • Must have Strong computer skills with excellent skills in Microsoft Office applications. Able to develop summary graphs, tables, pivot tables, and other reports using PowerPoint, Excel and Word.
  • Experience with JD Edwards preferred
  • Experience working with cross functional teams
  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • Proven ability to assess situations and develop plans to quickly resolve
  • Knowledge of Lean and 6 Sigma principles.
  • Ability to define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Problems solving and data analysis skills (8D, 5Y, statistics, etc.).
  • Lean manufacturing knowledge and driving cultural transformation with leadership
  • Knowledge and experience in the following concepts:

    • One-piece flow: balancing, pacing and improved through-put
    • Visual factory; KPIs, pacing boards, EI


  • Exhibits a strong ability to handle multiple demands with a sense of urgency, drive and energy required
  • Works well under stress with the ability to deliver on time required.




EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE




  • Bachelor Degree required in Engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years in a manufacturing engineering role (preferred).
