Position Information
Regulate irrigation water applied to plots and orchards. Operate various gates and valves necessary to control rates of flow of irrigation water involving furrow, drip, mini-sprinkler, and surface sprinkler systems in accordance with specific schedules provided by the immediate supervisor. Clean drain stands and furrows, unplug sprinkler emitters, flush mini-sprinkler lateral pipelines, repair damaged sprinkler hoses, and clean reservoirs. Assist in the establishment of irrigation systems in new and established research plots, laying out and recovering surface pipe systems, and retracing irrigation furrows. The hiring range is between $43,618.32 - $51,114.24.

Must possess or obtain a Valid CA Drivers License in accordance with the California Department of Motor Vehicles. Required


Certifications

Certification Requirement
Holds a valid Qualified Applicator Certificate. Preferred
Forklift certificate proven ability to successfully operate a forklift. Preferred

Experience
Experience Requirement
Minimum of 3-7 years of experience of agricultural irrigation systems. Required
Experience in applying pesticides to small scale production plots. Preferred
Demonstrated experience in operating tractors with attached or towed equipment and specialized equipment, self-propelled spray rigs, planters, bed shapers, cultivators, chemical incorporators, harvesters and combines. Preferred
Demonstrated experience and ability to regulate water applied to plots and orchards. Special Conditions
Special Condition Requirement
Must possess or obtain a Valid CA Driver License in accordance with the California Department of Motor Vehicles, if driving a university/personal vehicle for university related business. Required

Minimum Requirements
Ability to pass a respirator fit test and ability to wear and use air purifying respirator during chemical applications when required by law.
Ability to maintain operational records such as records for cultural care operations and materials applied to plots.
Ability to read, write and speak English; perform basic arithmetic calculations.
Ability to operate various trucks and small tractors.
Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors.
