Language Services Specialist / Japanese Interpreter

Job Summary

The Language Services Specialist / Japanese Interpreter contributes to Otsuka's mission to create new products for better health worldwide by providing language and cultural support for global colleagues in order to facilitate their interactions and understanding. The Language Services Specialist plays a key role in helping Otsuka achieve its patient-centric mission via interpretation for various R&D and commercial projects. They will also be part of Otsuka's corporate initiatives to enhance its unique culture by providing culture training for Otsuka and its North American affiliates. In addition, the Language Services Specialist will contribute to department goals by supporting various projects and initiatives. Relocation to Princeton, NJ is preferred but not required.

Job Responsibilities

Provides interpretation for Otsuka initiatives involving Otsuka staff, partner companies, outside consultants and vendors. Provides translation of documents related to Otsuka initiatives. Assists non-Japanese employees with understanding Japanese culture and business practices. Assists Japanese expatriates and colleagues in Japan with understanding US culture and business practices. Contributes to various organizational initiatives by offering expertise in Japanese language and culture. Supports various department projects and initiatives, including the implementation of the most up-to-date interpretation technology and process improvement.

Qualifications / Required

Experience and Skills:

  • Proficiency in English and Japanese languages (one of them must be native and 100% fluent)
  • Simultaneous and Consecutive interpretation skills
  • 1 to 3 years of professional experience in providing communication support to Japanese/American professionals
  • Understanding of Japanese and American cultures
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information related to drug pipeline as well as HR/Legal/Financial matters
  • Ability to learn quickly and work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Ability to plan and organize
  • Up to 10% domestic travel may be required based upon business needs

Educational Qualification:

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree

Qualifications / Preferred:

  • Advanced degree in Conference Interpretation or 2 years of special interpretation training
  • Experience in and understanding of pharmaceutical, biotech, or related industries
  • Knowledge of how/when to apply organizational policy or procedures to a variety of situation
