This job assumes responsibility for and responds to assigned departmental maintenance, BioMed and IS needs. Performs preventive maintenance, electrical safety, troubleshooting, and repairs to a variety of medical equipment.

Education

Required -Associates degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electronic Technology, or other similar degree

Work Experience
Required -2 years experience in health care

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Familiarity with and skills to repair electrical systems, HVAC systems, nurse call systems, fire alarm systems, television systems, medical gas systems, IS systems and equipment, medical equipment, and other equipment/systems as needed.
  • Ability to and experience working with little or no supervision and exercising good judgment in handling difficult situations.
  • Excellent human relations skills in order to remain calm and bring reassurance to situations in which important technical systems may have failed.
  • Knowledge of carpentry, painting, and plumbing.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Good time management skills and self directed.
  • Ability to travel throughout and between facilities.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule such as nights, evenings, weekends, holidays, extended shifts, on call rotation, etc.

Job Duties

  • Performs general repairs to electronic equipment and troubleshoots Biomed, IT systems.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on biomed equipment.
  • Makes effective decisions and sets priorities using good judgment.
  • Maintains records, schedules, etc.
  • Maintains files and database records, adhering to JCAHO and QA requirements.
  • Handles other duties and projects as assigned for the department.

Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.

Must be able to lift and carry materials and or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

Must have good vision, correctable to 20/20, with no color blindness.

Must be able to crawl, climb, stoop, and bend without restrictions.

Must be able to work indoors, outdoors, above ceilings, and in confined spaces as duties dictate.

Must be able to operate hand and power tools necessary for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and painting repairs.

Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue and as part of their employment, incumbents are not called upon to perform or assist in emergency care or first aid.

The incumbent may work inpatient care area(s) orwork in an area where patients enter. There may be an occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases.

Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
