POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Customs Brokerage Supervisor will plan, implement, and supervise operation plan, in conjunction with the customs brokerage manager, to ensure compliance with U.S Customs regulation. Responds to any deviations of the process and communicates exceptions and resolution suggestions to appropriate management. Provide guidance pertaining to customs compliance issues, day-to-day work surrounding informal entries. Will supervise a team to prepare customs documentation and ensure that shipments meet all applicable laws to facilitate the import and export of goods.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE:



  • Works to maintain full compliance and adherence with US Customs Brokerage Regulations for Section 321, Type 86 Compliance in Air and Ocean
  • Monitors and ensures team performance is in line with SEKO's compliance policy and department goals.
  • Provides clear instruction to team to ensure timely and orderly file flow including release, billing, and auditing.
  • Monitors problem files and ensures corrective action implemented as needed in conjunction with bonded CFS
  • Responsible for staying updated in all business and legislature changes surrounding Section 321
  • Perform routine check ins and ensures system compliance and compatibility
  • Assists in managing the brokerage department staff, including overall responsibility for performance management, career development and disciplinary action.
  • Ensures that all direct reports receive training in Import procedures.

  • Must comply with SEKO's C-TPAT Security Profile.
  • Participate in the development of a safe and healthy workplace. Comply with instructions given for their own safety and health and that of others, in adhering to safe work procedures. Co-operate with management in its fulfilment of its legislative obligations.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.



REQUIREMENTS:




  • Knowledge in US Customs and International trade, with a basic understanding of customs valuation, classification, compliance/audit and trade programs.
  • Knowledge in any/all of the following areas: USMCA, classification, value, marking, customs audits, compliance & opportunity reviews, first sale, disclosures, etc.
  • Client service orientation, initiative, responsiveness
  • Team oriented and comfortable in either a leadership or team leader role



EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Minimum:



  • High School/GED required.
  • 1-2 years of experience is a must.
  • Complete working knowledge of all US Customs Compliance Rules and Regulations.
  • Knowledge of related trade legislation, rules, and regulations.
  • Experience in implementing compliance processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills a must.
  • Some working knowledge of Foreign Trade Zones, bonded warehouses, inbound procedures.
  • Leadership and supervisory experience.


Preferred



  • Bachelor's Degree in a logistics field is preferred, but not required.
  • Prefer 2 plus years of experience.
  • Experience with Cargo Wise


SPECIALIST CERTIFICATIONS:



  • US Customs Brokers License
