Safety Leader - Polychemie

SUMMARY:

The Safety Leader is responsible for managing the administration of occupational safety programs within the SNF business and participating as a member of the overall Safety Team. Counsels members of management on the application of sound safety and industrial hygiene principles and practices in support of corporate objectives. The Safety Leader ensures the safety operational plans are aligned with business and site/corporate safety objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Recognize safe workers and good behavior.
  • Develop and enhance safety and health policies and procedures.
  • Performs job-related special assignments as required.
  • Perform safety and security audits.
  • Facilitates emergency drills and out briefing of conducted drills.
  • Review personal protective equipment use and recommend improvements as needed.
  • Plan, conduct, and participate in various safety meetings.
  • Provide data analysis to team and Managers.
  • Acts as a resource for the SafeStart Steering Committee.
  • Participates in new equipment/process reviews, including hazard analyses and operator training.
  • Participates in the investigation of incidents, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective and preventive measures.
  • Conducts safety education/training efforts for all levels of employees, including supervision and senior management.
  • Review all safety documentation and reports for accuracy and completeness.
  • Create and conduct job hazard analyses and risk assessments to proactively identify potential business and employee risks.
  • Participate as a member of the team in developing strategic safety plans, policies, and decisions.
  • Contributes to safety and organization success by welcoming related, different, and new requests; helping others accomplish job results.
  • Support PSM efforts for the site.
  • Build safety awareness through safety meetings, inspections, training, discussions, and communications.
  • Communicate safety concerns or needs to the appropriate personnel.
  • Gains production process job knowledge by attending production meetings; visiting production areas; establishing personal networks, and participating in operator training.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • Monitor site security and work with the site security system.
  • Assist in company-approved safety benefits (e.g. Safety glasses and boots program).
  • Perform site safety equipment inspections and complete documentation.
  • Assist/ensure compliance with DOT, HAZWOPER, and other mandatory regulations.
  • Assist with Annual/New Hire Physical scheduling.
  • Act as a liaison between site and contractor Safety Personnel.
  • Assist in annual turn-around monitoring activities (LEL meters, dragger tubes, etc.).
  • Monitor PPE supplies and Vendor Managed goods.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A High School diploma is required. Bachelor's Degree in Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field is highly preferred.
  • 1-3 years of relevant chemical manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Some leadership experience is preferred.
  • Familiar with federal and state regulatory requirements.
  • A wide degree of creativity and self-direction is required.
  • Strong auditing skills (processes and system applications).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a dynamic team.
  • Detail-oriented, able to adhere to deadlines, and have strong technical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with a multi-departmental team.
  • Ability to quickly learn new system applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative.
  • Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills.
  • Confident, bright, articulate, innovative, highly motivated, and self-starter with a high energy level and a spirit of team effort and cooperation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
