Job Summary

What this role contributes to AXIS and the designated department

  • At the direction of Underwriting this position performs a variety of advanced administrative duties involving the triage of new and renewal business. This position requires the ability to work independently, exercising critical thinking skills relative to the directed work assignments.

Key Responsibilities

The major duties and responsibilities performed; This is not meant to be an exhaustive list or to prevent other duties from being assigned.

  • Work with the unit underwriters to bind, book, and issue policies, process endorsements and to maintain Broker relationships. Typical tasks include:
    • Reviews and e-mails quotes and binder letters
    • Prepares policies for policy issuance
    • Reviews policies for accuracy and regulatory standards
    • Reviews policy logs for accurate input
    • Inputs policy and underwriting data in appropriate systems
    • Process endorsements per request within established company guidelines
    • Makes direct contact with brokers and their assistants including participating in meetings and visits as required.
  • In conjunction with the Unit Coordinator aids in the Quality Account Review process
  • in conjunction with Unit Coordinator train, and mentor new hires
  • Plan and coordinate special projects and assignments as directed.

Important Working Relationships

These are the roles that this position must collaborate with and establish key workingrelationships with in order to be successful.

  • Internal: Underwriting, Underwriting Client Services, Claims, Actuarial, CAT Modelling, Finance, Broker Compliance, Legal
  • External: Brokers and customer service reps at brokerage firms

Required Education/Training & Experience:

  • High school diploma required. College degree preferred
  • Minimum 3-7 years' experience in the commercial insurance industry as an E&S Property or Multiline Underwriting Assistant
  • Must possess a solid understanding of Property and Casualty insurance coverages and principles, familiarity with ISO commercial class codes, rating, and Compliance guidelines
  • MS Office Suite and Outlook or similar computer software experience a must. Strong aptitude for learning new computer programs is required.
  • Strong customer service skills and a professional attitude are required.

For this position, we currently expect to offer a base salary in the range of $52K to $65K (Chi). The specific salary offer will be based on an assessment of a variety of factors including the experience of the successful candidate and their work location. In addition, all employees are eligible for competitive incentive targets, with awards based on overall corporate and individual performance.
