Position Summary:
Under the leadership of the Director of Special Projects, the MSI
Coordinator will contribute to the success of the program by assisting with
the implementation of all MSI activities related to NJIT's partnership with
the City of Newark and the Newark Board of Education (NBOE). The MSI
Coordinator is expected to work occasional Saturdays and evening hours.
Travel to off-campus meetings and events may be required.

Essential Functions:
- Ensures the efficient day-to-day safe boarding and monitoring of student attendance on the NBOE bus transportation prior to the bus leaving campus.
- Evaluates and monitors students' behaviors, skills and knowledge for academic success especially in mathematics necessary for college success.
- Serves as an academic counselor and mentor to students in the project, with a professional emphasis on building positive bonds while remaining sensitive to any and all difficulties they may have.
- Assists in the recordkeeping of student's attendance and academic progress during the program implementation including student evaluation, data collection and performance documentation.
- Assists in the administration and evaluation of assessment instruments.
- Assists in program coordination and logistical planning, including participation in all staff development and training sessions, student and parent/guardian orientations, closing ceremony events, and special outreach events.
- Leads by example to provide support and assistance to students and staff as encouragement for college readiness, particularly in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
- Assists in conducting sessions on mathematics skills development, college preparatory and readiness skills development, support education planning (from College Prep classes), and SAT/ACT, when necessary.
- Accompanies participants on field trips and other activities related to the program, when appropriate.
- Fulfills other duties as assigned.

Prerequisite Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in education, school counseling, or a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) field.
- At least 3-5 years of experience in the management of pre-college learning experiences, particularly in mathematics.
- Demonstrated written and verbal skills to support relations building with all constituents.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively to manage tasks with attention to detail.
- Availability to travel to off-campus meetings and events.
- Availability to work occasional weekend and evenings.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint), Google Workspace (Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Forms, and Classroom), Videoconferencing (such as WebEx, Zoom, and/or Meet), and other software packages as needed.
- At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree or relevant experience in education, school counseling, or a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) field.
- Five or more years of experience at the high school or college level, particularly in mathematics, that serve a large number of underserved and underrepresented students.
- Proficiency in, and adaptability to, other university software systems such as Banner, Slate, and Cornerstone.
- Ability to represent CPCP and MSI in a positive manner to diverse students, families, teachers, internal stakeholders, and external stakeholders.
