Job Summary

San Jose State University's Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library is an innovative, collaborative, and supportive environment that empowers employees to achieve professional and personal goals while contributing to the University Library's student-centered mission. As a joint library facility with San Jose Public Library's main branch, and a member of the 23-campus California State University system, University Library employees frequently work with multiple external stakeholders and partners across a breadth of institutions. The Acquisitions and Collection Management Head reports to the Senior Director of Resource Management and Delivery. The incumbent works respectfully and cooperatively with employees of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library to perform duties under limited supervision and works independently to achieve specified outcomes. The purpose of this position is to oversee and support the work of the Acquisitions and Collection Management unit providing leadership, supervision and planning, establishing policies and procedures, and organizing workflows for the successful operation of the unit. The Head provides work direction and oversight to five library staff positions in the areas of materials acquisition, data analytics, shared print programs, contract renewals and negotiations, and e-resource activation.

The Acquisitions and Collection Management Head meets as appropriate with department/unit heads, library administrators, campus personnel, and CSU system-wide colleagues, ensuring that unit programs and plans support library, campus and CSU goals. The incumbent keeps the Senior Director of Resource Management and Delivery informed of significant issues and developments in the unit, and communicates appropriate information from library administration and other library units to Acquisitions and Collection Management staff. This position serves on Library leadership teams that set priorities and goals for services and determine Library operational strategies, policies and procedures. Key Responsibilities



  • Oversees the Acquisitions & Collection Management unit, developing workflows, establishing best practices, and providing strategic solutions at the library, campus, and system-wide level
  • Coordinates all aspects of resource acquisitions, including overseeing ordering and receiving of library materials in all formats and order types-firm orders, ongoing subscriptions, demand driven acquisitions, evidence-based programs, approval plans, donated materials, etc.
  • Provides work direction to five full-time SJSU employees of varying classifications, guiding, monitoring and correcting the work of others to maintain effective levels of productivity and quality
  • Serve as a member of the Collection Development Team, contributing expertise regarding acquisitions, budget, vendor programs, etc.
  • In collaboration with collection management stakeholders, the incumbent researches, recommends and implements innovative approaches to content acquisition and management, including vendor technologies, ILS APIs and integrations, and other enhancements that improve unit processes and workflows

Required Qualifications



  • A bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training
  • Four years of administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.



Preferred Qualifications



  • Two years of administrative work experience in an academic library setting involving the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.
  • Experience with library acquisitions and analytics using the Ex Libris Alma system
  • Two years' experience supervising staff
  • Demonstrated proficiency with data analysis and visualization tools and software i.e. Tableau, Google Analytics, Excel, or similar



Compensation

Classification: Administrative Analyst/Specialist - Exempt II
Anticipated Hiring Range: $7,300/month - $7,597/month
CSU Salary Range: $5,022/month - $9,083/month
