Position Announcement

The College of Science, Engineering & Technology at Utah Tech University (UT) in St. George, Utah, invites applications for a full-time professional-track Instructor of the Practice in Engineering Labs position, to begin Fall Semester (or August) 2023. Come join an active group of educators dedicated to offering students immersive experiences with lab courses, facilitating Engineering Design Day projects, and training in a variety of prototyping techniques. Responsibilities

  • Teach 30 credits of laboratory and/or lecture courses in the Engineering Department each academic year.
  • Maintain labs and lab equipment within the Engineering Department.
  • Ensure engineering labs are compliant with university, state, and federal safety regulations.
  • Provide prototyping guidance to students involved in design day, capstone, design practicum, and research projects.
  • Involve undergraduate students in research and experiential-learning projects.
  • Attend department, college, and division faculty meetings; work with other faculty in program management and adhere to University policy and procedures.
  • Perform defined campus-wide duties, including holding office hours, functioning as an advisor to students, and performing university service and scholarship as defined by academic policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, or related field, required. Candidates with a B.S. degree in engineering with relevant industry experience will also be considered.
  • Relevant industry experience is preferred.
  • A strong prototyping background is preferred.
  • Prior teaching experience in engineering or related courses preferred.
  • A strong commitment to and evidence of potential for excellence in teaching.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to collegiality and teamwork.
  • An interest in active learning, experiential learning, and student engagement is desirable.

Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time (9-month) professional-track faculty position. Faculty service begins August 2023, with pay and benefits starting July 1, 2023. Annual salary of $70,000+ depending on qualifications & experience, with additional compensation available for optional summer/overload teaching.
