Job Description

The Sleep Laboratory encompasses all technical functions within the Sleep Disorders Center. The laboratory is the diagnostic area of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care. It evaluates all patients suspected of having sleep disorders. POSITION SUMMARY Under the medical direction of a physician and under the direct supervision of the lead technologist, Polysomnographic Technologist prepares patients for both all night polysomnographic recordings and multiple sleep latency tests and maintenance of wakefulness tests. Performs a wide variety of diagnostic procedures on patients with suspected sleep disorders. Responsible for preparation of the patient for testing and the collection of information pertinent to the interpretation of the test results in the sleep disorders lab or at the bed side.Minimum Education RequiredHS Graduate or EquivalentRequired QualificationsAssociates degree in accredited educational training program preferred. Credentialed in Sleep through the BRPT, AASM, or RRT programs. Certification must be obtained within 18 months of hire.

Scope of Position

The Sleep Laboratory encompasses all technical functions within the Sleep Disorders Center. The laboratory is the diagnostic area of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care. It evaluates all patients suspected of having sleep disorders. It is located at University Hospitals East. The laboratory is staffed 24 hours per day, Sunday through Saturday.

Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or GED. Certification or vocational training may be preferred. Required Sleep credential through the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists, American Academy of Sleep Medicine, or Registered Respiratory Therapist programs within 18 months of hire. 1 year of relevant experience required. 2-4 years of relevant experience preferred.
