Flight Termination Systems Lead - (Levels III-IV)

As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, engineers, you will own the certification and regulatory approval of Flight Safety Systems for various spaceflight systems. This role will share in the team's impact on all aspects of developing and fielding an Autonomous Flight Safety System (AFSS) that supports the New Glenn vehicle. As the technical lead, you will be directly responsible for driving the qualification and approvals for the system, while working multi-functionally with our stellar teams of electrical, systems, navigation and software developers that are crafting the hardware. Critical responsibilities include requirements tailoring and regulatory compliance, development of the Flight Termination System Report, and working with the design teams on qualification/flight approvals.

Qualifications:

  • BS in aerospace, electrical, or computer engineering or a related field

  • 4+ years of experience with Flight Safety Systems (FTS) experience on orbital launch vehicles

  • Direct, hands on, experience with the development and qualification FTS components

  • Experience with requirements development, verification, and tracking

  • Experience with evaluating fault tolerance and reliability of complex electronics, aerospace, or safety critical systems

  • Strong analytical and system modeling skills for review and approval of various FTS/FSS documents/reports

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Desired:

  • Post-graduate degree in an appropriate engineering field

  • 7+ years of experience with Flight Safety Systems on orbital launch vehicles

  • Experience with Autonomous Flight Safety Systems (AFSS)

  • Experience with developing CASS mission rules

  • Experience negotiating and tailoring RCC 319, RCC 324, and/or AFSPCMAN91-710

  • Experience with flight safety ordnance components

  • Experience with systems engineering tools such as DOORS

  • Launch vehicle avionics integration experience

  • Experience with some or all of the following: GPS and inertial navigation systems, computing/processing system development, networking, power conditioning and distribution, instrumentation, and valve/motor control

  • Proven track record of technical leadership
