Loyola University Chicago ( LUC), College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Modern Languages & Literatures, invites applications for a full-time Lecturer of Spanish (non-tenure-track, renewable) beginning academic year 2023-2024. The Spanish section of MLL serves approximately 50 majors in Spanish and over 300 minors. The successful candidate will be joining a department with more than 20 full-time faculty members, over 12 majors and minors, and a graduate program in Hispanic Studies. The candidate will teach four undergraduate courses per semester, ranging from beginning to high intermediate level Spanish language courses, possibly also including courses in literature in translation, as well as serving as coordinator for Spanish 101-102. Coordination duties include running a yearly two-day training workshop, traditionally scheduled two weeks before the fall semester begins, supervising and conducting periodic observations of graduate student instructors, and assisting with placement for SPAN 101 and 102, among other tasks.

The candidate should have a PhD in Spanish or a related field at the time of appointment. Candidates for the position must clearly demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching and have a record of (or clear potential for) language coordination and student mentorship. Experience in teaching all levels of Spanish language and coordination of different levels from beginning to high intermediate is required. Candidates should have experience in the innovative use of technology in the classroom and be willing to assess all language levels and to supervise e-portfolios. Experience in second language acquisition is also desirable. The candidate should be willing to support the mission of LUC and the goals of a Jesuit Catholic Education.
