Job Description


This position is part of Parker's Electronic Motion & Controls Division (EMC) which provides technologies that create and control motion to customers across a wide range of applications and industries. This exciting opportunity allows you to become part of a team that aligns products, worldwide engineering and manufacturing capabilities to build our presence in a growing electrification space. EMC brings together decades of controls and electronics design and manufacturing expertise with significant growth opportunities presented by our mobile electrification and industrial efforts.

This position will be part of the Internet of Things (IoT) team. They will be responsible to develop requirements, implement, and test IoT solutions in predominantly mobile off-road vehicle environments. The role will work with cross functional teams across Motion Systems Group to determine requirements and implement them to enable products to be managed on the edge and remotely by Parker's Internet of Things cloud solution based on Azure and by 3rd party management portals.

As a member of the Internet of Things (IoT) team, the Software Engineering Intern will work with the IoT software engineering team and data analytics solution architects to collect data from products, determine methods to correlate it, connect it to edge/cloud/IoT solutions and display it in a way that customers can take action to reduce downtime, improve performance and understand the status of their equipment. As a software engineer, the candidate will apply software development principles, agile methodology and data analytics to put information in a way that customers can understand. The responsibilities include development of user interfaces, data access APIs to interface between Parker components on machines to the cloud databases and test automation using up to date tools and technology in an edge and cloud environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop software for the IoT Azure based web portal
  • Develop software for the gateway that aggregates signal data and sends to Azure Cloud
  • Develop mobile apps for diagnostics and command/controls with the gateway product
  • Develop PC based service tools for troubleshooting and servicing the gateway product
  • Comply to engineering standards with the guidance of senior engineers
  • Collaborate with product teams to determine diagnostics, sensing data, control data, predictive and prognostic data that can be used to develop models, reports and solutions which enable customers to reduce downtime, improve performance and maintain their products and systems
  • Able to interpret time series data that comes from sensors, machines, API's and components and write code to correlate it into actionable insights
  • Implement solutions that combine data from multiple sources into easy to understand alerts, reports and metrics
  • Able to integrate data to predict and prevent failures
  • Understand machine control data, interpret sensor data and build optimal control solutions

Qualifications:

  • Student must be currently pursuing a computer science, computer engineering, data analytics or equivalent bachelor's degree
  • Experience in one or more programming languages: Java, Javascript, Go, C/C++, Python
  • Strong communication and team work skills
  • Experience using Jira a plus
  • Experience working in Azure or similar environment a plus
  • Visualization techniques and tools, including Power BI, to produce reports, dashboards, metrics, trend data
  • Positive attitude with passion for growth, can-do approach to obstacles
  • Able to work flexible hours, working with global development and deployment teams
  • Able to work in a flexible environment both remote and on site in Elk Grove Village as conditions require
