Job responsibilities

* Identifies and mitigates risks and proposes alternative structures regarding Company's transactions.

* Drafts, reviews, and provides advice and counsel regarding contracts between the Company and customers.

* Develops standard form contracts, contracting processes, and policies on legal issues affecting Company's business units.

* Provides training and education to the Company's business units regarding legal updates, best practices, and risk mitigation.

* Supports internal legal team regarding corporate due diligence.

* Supports junior team members by reviewing escalated contracting issues.

* Supports the business unit as it relates to key client accounts.

* Develops, documents and implements contractual protections, processes and policies to effect compliance with the evolving legal and regulatory environment.

* May negotiate and prepare contracts and related documents for participation in clinical trials.

* Instructs, manages and works with external counsel and consultants.

* Opportunity to work with subject matter expert lawyers regarding the structuring, negotiation and execution of complex transactions.

* Partners with stakeholder teams to ensure agreements are consistent with applicable legal requirements, internal corporate policies and processes.

* Develops streamlined, organized and efficient policies and procedures for contracts, including establishing playbooks, and template language.

* Manages processes and workflows governing the intake, review, and approval of contract requests.

* Manages workload and metrics, driving turnaround times with high quality work product.

* Provides pragmatic day-to-day and strategic advice to minimize legal risks while advancing goals and initiatives.

* Identifies training needs within the business and develop and present training sessions on relevant transactional issues and processes.

* Manages external counsel within specified budgetary limits and in line with business and legal management's expectations.

* Anticipates changes in law, enforcement, and/or business objectives, develops contingency plans, and adapts approach as necessary to manage risks effectively and mitigate issues before they arise.

* Builds strong relationships with business partners to tactfully influence and gain their support to drive desired outcomes. Represents Syneos Health externally to customers, suppliers, and competitors. Resolves or avoids legal issues using negotiation skills and legal expertise.

* Must be able to work under tight deadlines and interact with lawyers and business teams globally.

* Perform other work-related duties as assigned. Travel may be required (up to 25%).

Qualifications

What we're looking for
* Completion of law school with a J.D. or L.L.B. degree and admission to the bar and in good standing in at least one jurisdiction in the United States required.
* Experience in private practice or in-house capacity (or a combination thereof), preferably in the life sciences sector.
* Experience counseling organizations and assisting in developing strategic solutions, with a track record of building business relationships and gaining trust of internal clients.
* Strong negotiation skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
* Familiarity with clinical research organizations and/or pharmaceutical industry is strongly preferred.
* Ability to understand complex contractual issues, assess risk, and provide business-focused advice.
* Experience handling multiple projects in fast-paced environment, with a high degree of client service orientation, and performing successfully in cross-functional teams.
* Ability to independently handle complex matters with minimal supervision. Understands when to escalate issues to senior management for awareness or decision.
* Ability to work independently, assemble client resources, meet tight deadlines and work effectively in a multi-functional, international team environment required.
* Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, strategic thinking, communication and organizational skills.
* Demonstrates expertise and sound judgment, understands how assigned responsibilities support Syneos Health's business objectives. Ability to provide practical, risk-balanced advice based upon a thorough understanding of the scope of an issue, taking full advantage of internal networks and external intelligence. Ability to promote company objectives while also applying the law with the highest ethical standards.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $102,600.00 to $210,900.00. The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high of the Syneos Health range for this position. Actual salary will vary based on various factors such as the candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.
