The Department of Engineering and Engineering Technology (EAET) at Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver) invites applications for a tenure/tenure-track faculty position effective in the 2023-2024 academic year. The department is seeking candidates with expertise, research, and teaching interest in Environmental Engineering. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to join a vibrant and growing department, and all faculty ranks are welcome to apply.

MSUDenver is particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for under-represented and historically minoritized groups. Our Fall 2021 student population consists of over 57% first-generation students and over 50% students of color. We are a designated Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) located in downtown Denver. As the third largest institution of higher education in Colorado and the only institution with an open access mission, MSU Denver is a model university for today's college students. The University serves the most diverse undergraduate student population in the state, as well as the most first-generation students and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals students.

Responsibilities

Successful candidates may be any rank, and there is an expectation that this individual will engage in significant scholarship. Well qualified applicants may also be considered for the role of Director for the Environmental Engineering Program which includes an additional reduction in teaching load to enable leadership of that program.

This position will be requested to teach 24 hours (or equivalent) per academic year and maintain a minimum of 5 office hours per week to include advising and consultation with students. However, the faculty member may choose to buy out some of that teaching time with research funding.

In addition, the position will require being active in engineering professional societies and activities, engaging in professional development, scholarly activities, applying current technical computer language/software and using other technologies in the classroom. Candidates will be expected to teach in the classroom as well as in the laboratory setting. The selected candidate should have the background to be able to teach a range of environmental engineering courses. Full time faculty members are also required to provide service to the department and institution by participating on committees, handling academic advising, contributing to course and program development, assessments related to accreditation, updating course curriculum, and contributing to course development.

Required Qualifications

Have earned a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering or a closely related field; if ABD, degree must be conferred by August 2023 or January 2024, depending on the start date.

  • Indication to contribute to the teaching mission of the university, college, and department
  • Demonstrate strong research interest within the applicant's area(s) of expertise
  • Have proven strong communication skills
  • Commit to support service and diversity initiatives at the university, college, and department levels
  • Evidence or indication of using high impact teaching practices in the classroom

Salary for Announcement

The salary range for this position is $81,000 - $131,000 at Assistant/Associate/Full Professor ranks. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based upon a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, education, experience, specialty and training.
