The School of Hospitality at Metropolitan State University of Denver invites applicants for a tenure/tenure-track faculty position in Food and Beverage Management - inclusive of food production, service, and management. The successful applicant will have demonstrated experience in teaching excellence in various learning environments, including online, face-to-face, and laboratory-based courses. We welcome candidates who can support and grow interdisciplinary programming through effective teaching, research, and industry engagement.

This position is intended to be a 9-month appointment with the opportunity for regular summer administrative duties (for extra compensation) related to the administration of the Food and Beverages program. The houses four degree programs and proudly provides a robust educational experience that balances critical thinking, operational knowledge, and industry preparation.

The successful candidate will:

  • Teach 12 credit hours per semester (Fall and Spring), which may include teaching evening and/or online classes. The position requires teaching food and beverage courses at the undergraduate level (which may consist of Intro to Hospitality, Basic Cooking Skills, Plant-Based Cooking, Taste the World, Applied Food and Beverage Operations, etc.). This position is responsible for cultivating a rich learning environment for industry-bound students and those who wish to pursue graduate studies.
  • The candidate will effectively integrate technology and applied learning into coursework, applied research, and advising.
  • The successful candidate will cultivate industry relationships, market the program to the food and beverage industry, and engage in interdisciplinary research.

Duties/Responsibilities:

This position will be required to teach up to 24 credit hours (or equivalent) per academic year and maintain a minimum of 5 office hours per week including advising and consultation with students. This faculty member will be expected to teach in the classroom as well as in the laboratory setting. The successful candidate should have the background and expertise to be able to teach classes with a focus on food production, service, restaurant management/operations, and financial analysis-related courses.

Required Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree upon time of appointment, in Food and Beverage, Nutrition, Culinary Arts, Hospitality, or other related disciplines.
  • Experience with course programming, curriculum development, and/or industry-related initiatives related to food service management, health and nutrition, and/or restaurant operations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 years of teaching experience in an institution of higher education
  • 5 years of industry experience in food service management, health and nutrition, and/or restaurant operations
  • Professional qualifications/certifications in Culinary Arts, Beverage, and Nutrition association and academic bodies
  • Proven ability to engage in interdisciplinary teaching and research
  • Record of effective scholarship and research in higher education
  • Demonstrated experience integrating sustainable management strategies in teaching, research, and/or industry experience
  • Demonstrated contributions to equity and justice through scholarship/creative activity, teaching, and service

Salary for Announcement:

The salary range for this position is $73,000 - $79,000 at Assistant Professor rank; $83,000 - $91,000 at Associate Professor Rank; and $118,000 - $126,000 at Full Professor. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based upon a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, education, experience, specialty and training.
