Job Summary |
The College of Architecture, Design and Construction (
CADC) seeks applicants for the position of Systems Engineer. This position will manage and perform work associated with analysis, design, implementation, operation, deployment, and support of the CADC's students, staff and faculty information technology resources.
Under general supervision, assesses technology trends and issues and defines technical solutions to meet the College's technology needs. Performs work that is usually routine and intermittently complex in nature, seeking assistance when guidelines are inadequate or significant deviations are proposed, and solves unanticipated problems independently. Ensures the stability, integrity , and efficient operation of the information systems that support University and College functions.

CADC is comprised of three schools: School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture, the McWhorter School of Building Science, and the School of Industrial and Graphic Design. Essential Functions |
This position reports to the IT Manager in the College of Architecture, Design & Construction and performs two broad functions. First, the position provides user support services to students, staff, and faculty associated with the Dean's Office. Second, the position provides support for college infrastructure including software and hardware.
Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
* Providing technical user support to students, staff and faculty
* Implementing, managing, and maintaining PC hardware and software
* Anticipating and solving the educational and specialty technology needs of the college
* Troubleshooting and repairing of assigned systems
* Researching, procuring, installing, managing, and maintaining hardware, software, and other educational/multimedia specific technologies
* Coordinating assigned technologies with overall university and college network, as well as, educational technology services
* Providing supplementary support for academic units within the college
* Providing instructional and user support for college-wide software such as SharePoint, Identity
* Finder, OneDrive, Zoom, Microsoft O365 products among others
* Supervising student workers
* Supporting (primary and secondary) college IT infrastructure including server, network, and
MDM technologies
* Providing oversight of backup and recovery for all endpoints; assisting in compliance with IT related University policies
* Evaluating emerging technologies that may be beneficial to the college
* Building and maintaining knowledgebases and documentation along with hosting workshops and training
* After-hours, on-call and travel may be expected. |

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Area of Experience: Experience in the administration of distributed computer systems, preferably in a university setting. See minimum skills and abilities.
High School/
GED general education plus 11 years of relevant IT experience
OR
Associate's Degree in no specific discipline plus 7 years of relevant IT experience
OR
Bachelor's Degree in no specific discipline plus 3 years of relevant IT experience.
Degree in IT or related field preferred.
Typical salaries are between $68,200 and $81,100
Full grade range $55,300-$94,000 |

Minimum Skills and Abilities |
Advanced understanding of server infrastructure and operating systems.
Ability to test and troubleshoot vulnerabilities in software and hardware.
Ability to implement software and upgrade firmware.
Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience. |
